landed gentry
Our inspiration for our early spring collection is called Landed Gentry. The designers were looking at a lot of dandy menswear and liked mixing it with super romantic femininity. The amazing illustration above was done by one of our designers.
Check your mailboxes! The newest catalog has dropped and should be getting to you any day now. See it on our website here and check out all the new product on the site.
The creative team played off of the romance of the collection and started gathering all sort of romantic ephemera, like old books and sheet music. The book above was inscribed "from Alfred to Kate" and they went with that theme, changing the theme to "from Kate to Alfred".
The creative team found an old feather quill pen in Valley Forge, Pennsylvania and brought it back for our graphic designer to play with. Here she is practicing her lettering. She ended up mastering the quill as you can witness in beautiful lettering in the Landed Gentry catalog. The pen itself even inspired the cover...

I always love the Free People catalogues, but I believe this is my most favourite one to date. Probably because I'm a raving Anglophile. ;) Where was the catalogue shot and where o' where is that gorgeous house on the back cover located?

I do hope my comments are going through, as they're not showing up. However, I wanted to let you know that I added the RSS feed of this blog to Livejournal here: http://syndicated.livejournal.com/freepeopleblog/
People can 'friend' it and view this blog on their friends page on LJ if they're in a rush and can't stop by here to see it in all it's pretty bohemian glory. :)

I've been reading this blog for a little while and wanted to delurk to say that this is one of my favorite reads! I really like how the ideas behind the seasonal collections and displays are described and the thought process and planning that goes on behind the scenes. Really awesome stuff. I cannot wait for this catalog to arrive in my mailbox--it looks so gorgeous and has such a beautiful concept! :)
Thanks for continuing to inspire!!

I loved this catalog and can't wait for the next one. I do however wish free people would give the brand or maker of the shoes that are on the website and catalog just so if they sell out we could search for them on the internet.
