I am so excited for this! I can’t wait to see everyones creativity, what a fun contest.

emily -September 5, 2008, 5:18PM

Hi! Can the picture include other mediums besides colored pencils, markers, ink, etc? Like could you use clips from magazines or something to add to some of the outfits/background?

pruittfpgirl -September 5, 2008, 5:39PM

Hi Emily!
Yes, you can certainly use magazine clips and other papers! Anything 2-Dimensional is great!
What we wouldn’t want would be like a 3-D sculpture or a diorama, haha! ;)
Good luck, and please feel free to ask any other questions!

kelli :) -September 5, 2008, 10:18PM

Adrianne with NinkyBink is truly amazing……Im SO glad you mentioned her in this post. She is deserving of it…….and so much more! I LOVE this contest…and cant wait to see what people come up with :)

Vikki -September 6, 2008, 3:04AM

OOOOh I was so excited to do this…..but I don’t live in the United states :( CANADA here…..common can’t you change that????

pruittfpgirl -September 6, 2008, 7:22PM

Hey Vikki!
I know, it’s such a bummer! We would love to open the contest to anyone in the world! Unfortunately, it’s on account of legal reasons that we cannot. :(
But keep your eye out for another giveaway, like posters, we send those anywhere!

C -September 6, 2008, 8:43PM

I have a question, because it says we can send as many entries as we wish, but each entry must be sent separately…Does that mean If I choose to mail my entries that each entry must be in a different envelope, or can I send them all in the same envelope, so long as each entry is stapled to its own piece of paper with all my information on it ? Likewise, If I choose to email my entries, would I have to send each entry in a separate email, or just send them all in attachments as long as I give you all my information in the email ?
Thanks! Look forward to hearing from you, I’m excited to enter!

C -September 6, 2008, 8:48PM

Hey guys! Sorry to comment again so soon, but right after I sent in my last comment I thought of a new question!
Should each fashion illustration only have one “character” or “subject”, like if I wanted to just draw a girl in an outfit – that would be one entry…what if I draw multiple characters on the same “paper” does that still count as one entry or does it count as an entry for each character with free people clothing / products that I draw ? Thanks!

Kaley -September 7, 2008, 4:38PM

I’m so excited for this contest! I have one question…what do you mean by it must have one free people item? I hope that isn’t a stupid question. I have a bit of an item of what you mean, I just wanted to get a little more information so I meet all the guidelines. THANKS!

Kaley -September 7, 2008, 5:32PM

Ok, never mind! I originally skimmed everything because I was so excited and thought it was a fashion sketch contest. My bad! I understand it now, ha. Sorry, thanks!

L -September 7, 2008, 9:22PM

it probly means that you need to inculde one iteam that free people sells in you drawing

Boomerang -September 8, 2008, 9:58AM

Very cool contest!

pruittfpgirl -September 8, 2008, 10:34AM

Hello Everyone! :)
I’m so happy everyone is interested in the contest!
Kaley –
You and L are right, one item the Free People sells must be featured in each drawing. One note on that though, that I wanted to make sure everyone knew, was that it does not have to be an item that we are currently selling. If you would like, the item featured in your drawing can be your favorite FP item from a few seasons ago.
If you are mailing in your entries, they can all be mailed in one envelope, but like you suggested, they would each need to have your information paper-clipped or stapled to them.
As for emails, you would need to send each entry in a separate email.
Your illustrations may have as many subjects as you wish. Multiple characters on one piece of paper would be one entry, and so would one character on a piece of paper be one entry. I think the key to go by would be one piece of paper=one entry. But you can draw however few or many people on your entry as you like!
I hope this helps you guys out, and please please feel free to write us or post more questions!
Good luck everyone!

tuesday -September 8, 2008, 5:28PM

This sounds like a lot of fun! What will the usage be on your part? World rights, complete buyout, etc? I guess what I’m asking is will the illustrator maintain copyright?

pruittfpgirl -September 8, 2008, 5:41PM

Hi Tuesday!
We do not plan on using the illustrations at all – though we will put all the entries on our Flickr account for everyone to enjoy once the contest is over!
But this contest is a just-for-fun type of deal- we don’t plan on using the illustrations for anything besides admiring. :)

amy (: -September 10, 2008, 10:41PM

Ahh! Best contest ever! (:
Now I’m going to be annoying, and bother you guys with some questions:
Out of curiosity, about how many people will be entering the contest?
The drawings should be full-bodied people right? [like no partial body]
Do you guys prefer a mail-in or by e-mail?
Do you guys prefer a certain ‘free people-y’ style, or can we just use our own styles?
Haha :P Sorry for so many questions! I just want to get started right away!
And I have so many ideas… need to start narrowing down, if with these questions answered.
Thanks! And again… awesome contest!! (:

pruittfpgirl -September 11, 2008, 9:49AM

Hi Amy!
Don’t worry about asking many questions, we welcome them all!
I’m hesitant to say we would want a Free People style. Though we do want each entry to feature a Free People item, and we will to some extent be looking for a Free People aesthetic, I wouldn’t want that to hinder or change someone’s normal artistic style. I would say be true to yourself but think Free People. What is your interpretation of Free People style?
As for mail-in entries versus e-mail entries, it makes no difference – whatever you prefer.
Your drawing may be full or partial body, where ever inspiration leads you!
I have no idea how many people will be entering the contest though. We won’t know that until after the contest! :)
Well I hope that helps, and good luck in the contest!
Please, feel free to post any other questions you might have!

Trisha -September 12, 2008, 9:08PM

Is it ok to have more than just one FP item in my entry?

Monday -September 12, 2008, 9:14PM

Can the paper be on a 8 x 11 or does it have to be on a 11 x 17?

Laurie -September 15, 2008, 10:18AM

I am from California but currently live in Panama. Can I participate? I can receive things at my home there and will be visiting in October. Thanks seems like a fun contest!!!

pruittfpgirl -September 16, 2008, 9:36AM

Hello All!
I’m so happy about all the interest in the contest!
Trisha – You may have as many FP items in your entry as you like! Just so long as there is at least one FP item, you are fine! You could have a whole catalogs worth if you wanted!
Monday – You can certainly use 8x11in paper! You can use any size you like up to 11×17. It must not be any bigger than 11x17in.
Laurie – As long as you enter from your California address, you are good to go! Lucky you can receive things at your home there! :)
Thanks for the questions guys, and please feel free to ask any others!

Aruna -September 24, 2008, 10:20AM

Kris Chau’s stuff is sooooooooooo inspiring….sigh.

Marcelle -September 30, 2008, 1:32PM

What a fun contest. FP is the best!

Aruna -October 2, 2008, 9:37PM

Hey, one more Q- what is the maximum file size for the artwork if sent by email?

pruittfpgirl -October 3, 2008, 9:53AM

Hey Aruna!
Illustrations should be no larger than 11×17 inches, or no larger than 6336×9792 pixels. Other than that, there aren’t really any limitations. It can be a huge enormous file size, as long as it’s not too big to email! :) I would say that’s the only limit. As long as your email will send it, you’re fine.

agitagi -October 10, 2008, 6:50PM
