We have yet another fun holiday diversion for you! I recently went around and asked everyone here at the home office for their favorite holiday or wintertime songs! We have put them together on a playlist for you, which you can access by clicking here. Please note however, that you need to have iTunes installed on your computer to be able to view the playlist. We have been experimenting with different ways to put up playlists for you, so we of course welcome any feedback!
At any rate, check out the playlist! It includes over 30 songs, including this awesome classic sung by Eartha Kitt below...

It's the day after Thanksgiving, and the holiday season has officially started! We are already getting excited, and our graphic designers have created a little holiday card for you to use! Click here to be taken to a page where you can download and print it! Once you print it, simply cut along the dotted lines, then fold it in half, and half again! Presto- cute little holiday card!

I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving! I had a fabulous one, with friends and fun, and of course, plenty of delicious food! We did not, however, have these cute carrot flowers! Yum! They would make about any dish using carrots look a bit more special! I saw them on The Kitchn - for real simple step-by-step instructions, click here!

In preparation for Thanksgiving tomorrow, we passed around a couple sheets of paper and drew or wrote down what we are thankful for, just for fun! The papers ended up looking really cool, and it was neat to see what everyone put!
What are you thankful for?

For anyone that signed up for the Art of Giving winter craft swap, you should have an email waiting in your inbox with your partner's info and the link for the flickr group. Please leave me a comment if your email is missing info (there was lots of fast copying and pasting, so I'm sure there are some mistakes) or comment if you did not receive an email.
Here is a list of people that signed up and did not leave their email address. Please leave a comment so I can give you a partner:
What is your job here at FP?
web producer/nerd/sarcastic jerk
What is your current state of mind?
I sort of feel like crawling under a rock today, but also I'm excited about Thanksgiving.
Who are your heroes?
Conan O'Brian. Bob Dylan. I know I have plenty, but my mind is blanking.
If you could choose what to come back to life as, what would you be?
I might be a hawk, so I could fly but not be afraid of being eaten. Or maybe a gibbon. So I could sing all day and swing through the trees.
What or who is your greatest love?
My mom.
Name one thing necessary to your happiness.
Animals, hugs, pizza - oh crap, that's 3 things - oh, and laughing, sleeping... I need a lot of things.
What do you hate the most?
People who are unable to see the world though other people's eyes. Also, people on cellphones.
What would the name of your band be and what genre? What instrument do you play in this band?
"expired medicine" - I don't remember why, but I remember deciding that. I'd play the drums, even though I don't know how to play...
What color are you?
Green.
What is your motto?
It might sound hackneyed, but really I believe deeply in The Golden Rule. Although "Get Over It" is a close second.

This is actually part of an advertising campaign for HSBC Bank! Their ad company had an aerial photo of city skyscrapers attached to the bottom of this pool, in attempt to raise global warming awareness. I just love the idea! It makes me wonder what other pictures would look really cool at the bottom of a pool!
Check out these awesome landscapes, made and photographed by artist Carl Warner! They are created entirely with food!
The castle is made of cheese, and the wagon wheels are mushrooms! I bet you can pick out the rest!
I love those rock-potatoes! And corn cornfields!
Mmmm.... Bread mountains.
Here is the artist at work on one of his creations!
You can see a bunch more of Carl's foodscapes right here! Special thanks to FP girl Lisa, who emailed us to make sure we saw these! Thank you so much Lisa! Great eye!
If you ever see something awesome that you think we should feature on the blog, please always feel free to contact us and suggest it! We love to hear from you! Email us anytime at blog.freepeople@gmail.com!

These little felt brooches are so adorable and carefully detailed! They were created by Kup Kup, whose Etsy store, Kup Kup Land, is filled with many more equally cute little somethings. I would love to pin a tiny collection of these treats on my jacket!
Ever wanted to learn to knit, but found book instructions too difficult? Jasmine, of our sweater design team, teaches how to cast on and how to do the most basic knit stitch in this fun little video! All you need is some yarn and a couple of knitting needles, which you can get real cheap at any craft store, or Wal-Mart, Target, etc...
Look forward to our next episode too, when Jasmine will teach us how to purl and how to cast off! I can't wait to learn more stitches!

These incredible shots were taken at the Devil's Pool on Victoria Falls in Africa. In the Devil's Pool during September and December people can swim right at the edge of the top of the falls and not go over! This would be so amazing! Plus, Victoria Falls is arguably the largest waterfall in the world! What a great way to see it!
Today is the last day to sign up for our winter craft swap, The Art of Giving! Join us in handcrafting some amazing gifts for your fellow Free People friends! Read all about it here, and to sign up, click here. This should be really fun, don't miss out!
For those of you who have already signed up, you can expect an email next week with your partners information! Happy crafting!

I was starting to wonder when the first real snow would ever get to Philly, and this morning, it was here! It even stuck a little bit, as you can see here on our dog yard!
Below is some snow falling on the mighty Delaware River. Very pretty!

Lately I've been feeling very in to wrap-tops, and wrap-eque tops. We have a few out right now that I have been eyeing, but I'm actually not sure which I like best!
These gorgeous shots are from Kuwana Japan's annual winter light show, in their Nabana no Sato theme park. There are reportedly 4.5 million LED's in the show! I've always wanted to visit Japan, now I wish I could get there before March, when the show ends! So beautiful!
This is the Rain Man Decanter by Matilda Sunden Ringner, and it is pretty darn cool. If I had one of these, I think I would be constantly looking for stuff that needed poured or watered, just so I could watch it...
I couldn't resist putting up these cute kitties I saw on The Moldy Doily- they are all painted up and ready for fun! I don't think my kitty would tolerate being painted, but it sure does look awesome - I especially love the skeleton one.

One of our designers just got home from Hong Kong, and with her came these incredible shoes! She got them at a store there called IT, and said she noticed that "teddy-bear fur" like this is popping up on all kinds of clothing over there! You can bet all of us at the office are just dying to get a pair of furry sneakers like hers- they look so cool and fun!

Our third We the Free store will open this Friday in an exciting new space on Cahuenga Blvd in LA. More on the We the Free store later, but here is some info about the new space created by our parent company, Urban Outfitters.
A new retail experiment in Hollywood, CA, Space 15 Twenty creates an opportunity for Urban Outfitters to collaborate with creative brands we find inspiring and interesting.
A courtyard leads from each store to an outdoor performance space and adjoining gallery. Both of which encourage designers and artists to become part of a curated environment. Working with neighboring music, film and art establishments, both courtyard and adjoining gallery will present a rotating cast of local musicians and artists.
The Urban Outfitters store will feature one-off installations by a new designer every few months. Alongside the 11,000 square foot Urban Outfitters store, Space 15 Twenty will host a selection of vendors. The revolving brands utilizing these spaces will reflect and compliment Urban Outfitters and present our customers with an overarching view of people and brands which are excited to be aligned with.
Check out the space15twenty for info on the other tenants and the great events the space will host.
This looks like so much fun! This wallpaper is perfect for those of us who are tempted to write and draw all over our walls, or who have children prone to do the same. It was created by Jon Burgerman, and can be bought from this store in the UK.
See some other cool wallpapers we've come across in our internet travels here, here, and here!
I saw this coloring wallpaper on Freshome.

Aren't these pictures so pretty, and oozing with the Free People aesthetic? Free People girl Erica, of Santa Cruz California, went to gorgeous Wilder Ranch and took these shots of her two best friends! She was kind enough to send them our way, partly because everyone she knew commented on how "Free People-y" they looked! I agree, don't you? I especially love the one with the horse in it! Awesome!
To see the rest of the shoot, have a look here on Erica's site!
Thanks for sharing these with us Erica! They are so beautiful!

I was introduced to Oh Joy!. The tree shapes are cut from toilet paper rolls and then mounted on dowels on the wall creating the forest and shadows.
Browsing the artist's site I found the Notice-Forest made with a McDonald's Happy Meal bag. At first I wasn't sure what I was looking at. I thought this was the inside of a room, and the McDonald's graphics were projected with light or something. But the photo is actually take INSIDE the bag, and the tree has been cut out from the top of the bag and stood up inside. It's amazing!
Made of 20% dark, 10% white, and 70% milk chocolate, all I can say is YUM! Visit Mary and Matt's general store to get your hands on this deliciousness.
Our November Intimates catalog drops tomorrow, so here's a sneak peak of the cover! And check out the video too:)
We shot this book in a studio in brooklyn...with Rosie (FP designer Mary Ellen's dog) making an appearance. Also got a homeless cat in on the shoot, who one of our hair stylists adopted when the shoot was through! This catalog was all about being sexy, confident, cheeky...feeling great!!
I love all these different kinds of tape! I was thinking about our post about decorated tape from the other day and did a little search for adhesive tape and found I love sticky tape! It's a blog which is, as you might imagine, devoted entirely to tape, and it has many cute and cool types of tape featured on it! I especially love the tinsel tape - it gets me in the mood for the holidays!

We are loving this new book by friend of Free People, Bilyana Dimitrova called To Each His Home. The book highlights eight really imaginative homes with beautiful photographs by Bilyana. Above are some sneak peak images of the book. You can see more on the website. Wouldn't you love to live in one of these?
She has also set up a flickr group where you can share photos of your own creative home! Check out the info here.
How cute is her announcement with the handwritten note?
Check out our very first episode of FP Dog Talk, featuring one of our Graphic Designers, Kevin, as host! We had such a blast making this little show about some doggies from the Home Office!
Tune in next time for more DOG TALK!

All of the fancy fashion designers created special matrioshka dolls for Vogue Russia's 10 year anniversary. Stella McCartney's is probably my favorite (the first one with the sandals and the painted toes?!) and these are some of the cuter ones. But check out the gallery on Vogue to see all of the crazy ones, and some are pretty crazy.
Which one is your favorite?? (The ones pictured are Stella McCartney, Burberry, Dolce and Gabbana, and Pucci, but look at the rest!)
You might have noticed scarves are all the rage these days, and they are such a cute way to warm yourself up on a cold autumn day!
I am going crazy for our Mica Metallic Scarf lately - I kind of want it in every color! And I love that it is sparkley!
Shown below is the scarf in Cerulean...
Now the scarf in Berry...
Finally, here is the scarf in Old Emerald!
So which color would you guys pick?

In response to our request to send us your favorite crafts, Free People girl Ariel from Lexington Kentucky sent us these really awesome Free People-wearing Sims that she created! It might not be a craft in the most classic sense, but we just loved them! I can pick out all the Free People items they are wearing too! Don't they look so cute! It makes me want to go play the Sims and build them a fun little house to live in!
This was such a cool idea Ariel! Thanks for sharing it with us!

Free People is hosting a winter craft swap called The Art of Giving! It's been a long time since our last swap, so I am super excited. Join us in handcrafting some amazing gifts for your fellow Free People friends and spread the winter cheer.
Here's how it works: You fill out the simple form with your name, email, and mailing address. People outside the United States are welcome to join, but if you live in the U.S., you can indicate if you do not want to ship internationally. I will match you up with a partner and send you their email and shipping address.
You'll have until New Years to make a gift and mail it to your partner. You can make anything you want. The wintery theme can be your inspiration. You can make something to keep warm, decorate your home, or simply make your partner smile.
Aren't these masks so fun?! One of our designers just got back from the Netherlands, and she brought home enough masks for the knits team and the image team! A lot of the masks are reproductions of old Victorian-era masks. What awesome little gifts!

I adore these illustrations from Katie Kirk's wonderful children's book, Eli, No! They are done in such a cute style, and the book is just wonderful! See the rest of it here on Katie's Flickr. The book is not yet published (I seriously can't see why not) but you can bet whenever it gets published (I'm sure it will soon) I will be getting a copy!
I have been looking all afternoon for information about this house, but I can't seem to find any other than that it is in Iceland, and was photographed by Pascal Fellonneau, who has a lot of other gorgeous photos of Iceland on his site. I couldn't resist showing it to you! I'd love to live there...

I'm loving these patterned tapes from Present & Correct. They'd be awesome for gift wrapping! I'd like them with just plain brown butchers paper dressed up with the pretty tapes.
Check out these other printed tapes I had found awhile back, lace tapes and frame tape too.
Don't forget about our internet craft party! Do you love to create and craft? Do you have a favorite craft project? Is there something you've made that is so wonderful that you want to show us how? We would love to see it!
We're hoping that all the Free People girls out there will send us their favorite craft projects!
Send us your project with pictures (and step-by-step instructions if applicable) at blog.freepeople@gmail.com! Be sure to include your name, town, and website or blog if you've got one!
We will be trying our hand at the projects ourselves, as well as featuring some of them on the blog!
For inspiration, check out these revamped Altoid tins! I am so amazed at the clever things people have thought of to do with them!

A few days ago, our customer service representatives received this little note: Dear Free People,
I receive your catalogs in the mail...thank you. I have a question in regards to your November 2008 catalog.
On pages 25 and 35, is it possible for you to tell me what lipstick color/brand they are?
Thank you.
We asked our make-up artist, Deanna, to help us out with this question, and she told us exactly how she made-up the model's lips! I thought I'd share her answer with you: Prepare the lip with a little Eucerin ointment- just enough to moisten the lip.
Then press Make Up For Ever Star powder (loose) in iridescent fuschia into lip, concentrating color more on the center of lips, then build to desired intensity.
Most Make Up For Ever products can be purchased at Sephora!
Thanks Deanna!

This video of the Reno Balloon Race makes me happy. It's all sped up, and the balloons look really cute and cheerful zipping and bounding around so quickly! Enjoy!

These great pictures are from the first issue of Wassenaar, a new online photography magazine that I am enjoying very much! Definitely check it out if you like photography! These particular photos are by Alexander Binder, Andrés Marroquín Winkelmann, and Justin James Reed, from top to bottom. Check out Wassenaar if you want to see more!

I love this "graffiti" using moss, created by Anna Garforth and Elly Stevens. They call the project MOSSenger. I wish I could figure out how they got the moss to be on the wall in those letters like that! I can't find any information on the project that elaborates on the process very much. Still, very cool! For more pictures and information, check out this post on Yatzer!

Peter designed the bus with Martin from the design collective Muungano and the graphics were done by Fredrik Forsberg at THEY GRAPHICS. The bus, of course, offers books as well as internet, computer games, a music listening station, and even a small cinema.
I wish this would roll down my street! I would definitely spend some time hanging out.
I love these photos by Matthew Carden with little people figurines depicted living and working among different foods. Carden is a commercial food photographer and married to a chef. I can't explain the work much better than what's on the site, so check out the description below.
"Carden sets out in his art work to make viewers more aware of what they eat and to simply think about food as an integral part of our world. His photographs juxtapose figures with seemingly colossal broccoli, macaroons, chicken wings and the like, and speak of abundance and the ultimate waste produced on a daily basis in our land of plenty. Despite looming issues, the blurry, dreamy quality of Carden's work allows the viewer a whimsical space to enjoy the pure pleasures of food. These are the awesome self-portraits of Levi van Veluw, a graduate of Artez Art School in Arnhem, the Netherlands. They are so interesting to look at! Check out Levi's site for more information and a really cool video featuring what is arguably his best landscape!

Our November catalog just came out a couple days ago, and I think it is just gorgeous! I wondered though, which catalog from this autumn has been your favorite so far?
Below are the covers from the last three catalogs. If you click the name of the month above the picture, it will take you to the main FP website, where you can look at the inside of each catalog online, in case you need a reminder before you pick your favorite!
