My new year’s resolution is to read 55 books next year. Last year’s was 50 books, and I’m nearly done with the 50th right now. It is so satisfying!
I used to make lists and lists of resolutions, but then never stuck to them. Now it’s just read, and instead of spending money on little, useless items…save it up and go out for a fancy dinner once a month, just for fun. Happy New Year!!

JolieLaid -December 30, 2008, 10:57AM

My new year resolution is to live more in the moment! Love you Free People!

joanna Smith -December 30, 2008, 11:01AM

I love the free people blog. I steal ideas from here all of the time! I usually try not to make new year’s resolutions because I feel I should set & meet goals all year, but this year I have one:
As a first-year teacher, the past semester I kind of lost myself in my career. Over the break, I feel like I’ve found myself again. My new year’s resolution, then, is to do one “me” thing everyday so that I do not lose myself again.

Maribelle Lococo -December 30, 2008, 12:24PM

2009 is a big year for me, I have so many resolutions and expectations this year. 2008 was probably the hardest year for me. I lost my job as being a shift manager at Claire’s. After that my car broke down. Shortly after my home that I’m living in with my family suddenly fell apart. Which meant we couldn’t take showers, use the toilet for a few months. We had to keep renting out motels & such. Which made it even harder for me to find a job. All within the same year I fell in love with the most wonderful man who stuck with me through EVERY depressing talk or cry I gave him. Which I never do, I never like to give my sob story to make everyone around me sad. lol..
With all of the problems my parents had they kept convincing me to loan them every bit of money I had which made me go completely negative in banks.
I convinced my parents to move so we can all get out of that depression.
I helped them out extreme, and practically moved just for them.
I didn’t need my car since I just walked across the street to a convenient who was hiring.
After 6 months of the terrible blues. I’m on my feet again. I’m finally doing things for me and not my parents who’ve faked not having money.
My car is fixed, my wardrobe is getting there… I’m paying off my banks.
Now that I have time for myself without my parents telling me what to do & take care of them..
Within the new year my resolution is to be everything I’ve wanted to be, without me always living my life for everyone else.
I’m going to school for fashion and cosmetology/management this year.
Hopefully find a job that is in retail and NOT convenient food mart lol.
I’m going to get all my furniture before I move out into my own apartment.
Start over a new life with the love of my life who still loved me through every stress pound I’ve gained.
And join a gym that I’m joining the first week of January to lose it all back.

my new years resolution is to be more positive with everything in life!

Elora H. -December 30, 2008, 12:40PM

I usually don’t make a New Year resolution as I burn through so many notebooks as a writer I forget which book I put it in – honestly. However this year I’ve been thinking long and hard.
1. Find who I am apart from my ex fiance. – I lost him this last year so it’s going to be a change, yet perhaps it’s a good change.
2. Live life to the fullest.
3. Love others more – learn to be patient with people – Over ten years of sales work can make you a little bit cranky at times.
4. See the world – One step at a time.
5. Return to the Theatre – Since high school I have not returned to acting due to starting college at 16. Theatre and Singing are my one true love.
6. Ending on an even number – get into photography more. Capture all that is beautiful — it could even be the ugliest thing to most people, yet it’s still beautiful and should be preserved.

madison -December 30, 2008, 12:40PM

This coming year I want to stay in touch more, by way of writing letters.
I know I miss getting letters, and who doesn’t get excited when they journey to the mail box expecting bills, and end up with a personal letter about all sorts of fun random things and reminiscing!
So in 2009 I am going to write my heart out, and not expect a letter back, but hope someone got blessed by my hand.

Nikki -December 30, 2008, 12:42PM

I’m currently a junior in high school and i need to help my mom who’s a single mother with the payments of the house and bills so we don’t lose our house, so i’m going to try and get another job (if i can and have the time). And, to get better grades than what i have right now, it’s hard to do it because i’m always busy with work but i know i can do it. And my last resolution is to try to always look on the brighter side of things, no matter how hard things may seem to be in your life at the moment, there’s ALWAYS something good in every bad situation.

I always have this problem where I start new projects but never finish them, so for 2009 I definitely want to complete my half-knitted scarves that I’ve started years ago and move on to more advanced techniques. Also, I want to continue ballet again, which I’ve been doing since I was four but recently took a break from it. It’ll probably be hard since I haven’t danced in a year, but I want to challenge myself especially because I think I have more motivation this time for getting better and working hard. My last resolution would be to learn a french word everyday in my dictionary so I can know more words! lol. And to be able to use them.

k. -December 30, 2008, 4:00PM

2008 was a very hard year for me. I have chronic health issues that had been under control (transplant and autoimmune) but for some reason went nuts and I spent almost all of 2008 dealing with trying to heal and doctors. For the brief period these issues resolved my parents almost ended their marriage of 38 years which was very hard on my mother and lead to way to much stress and now that that resolved I have new health issues that are wearing me down to what feels like nothing.
So…
In 2009 I want to change almost everything about my life. I will change my approach to my over mental and physical health and try harder to have peaceful and pain free days. I will do yoga everyday; I will walk the dog through the neighborhood and I will meditate and overall learn to relax and let things beyond my control go. I will learn to say no.
I will take the time to learn French, to knit, to paint and get back to being myself because I feel so far removed from how I was a year ago. I will complete my novel and the screenplay I was writing just for the hell of it. I will travel and visit the places I’ve always meant to and not let external factors diswade me. I will live more in the moment as that is how I see it now, moment to moment, and maximize the good ones as much as possible.
And last I will be a better partner to my loving husband who has stood by my though this trying and scary time and make our time together as special as possible as often as possible. He has seen me through this (and still is) and I want to be there to do the same for him.

In 2009 I’m resolving the following:
1) Lose that last stubborn 20 pounds before summer
2) Organize all my “important” papers & get them out of that rubbermaid tote
3) Never again be late for an appointment or for work by always leaving 15 minutes earlier than I used to.
4) To take my dogs for a walk 2 times a week; it makes them happy and it’s good exercise for me.
5) To read one “classic” book & watch one “classic” movie this year and then one every year thereafter; I’m tired of being so culturally stunted.

athena -December 30, 2008, 8:11PM

Hello Freepeople!
I don’t really have set “resolutions” but I have sort of goals I like to accomplish on an ongoing basis. Write music. Connect with more people on a deep, spiritual level. Have more meaningful conversations. Eat more healthy. Do lots of hiking! Learn to surf. Travel. Let other climates/cultures soak into me. And maybe even fall in love again, sigh.
2008 you rocked me Amadeus… and I’m so excited for 2009.

These aren’t my new year’s resolutions:
Lose weight.
Get organized.
Go to the gym.
Eat healthy.
Get in shape.
Save more money.
Let’s face it, come February, the gym will miraculously move to the bottom of you’re things to do list. You’re going to go to McDonald’s. Your closet will look like a mess and you’re going to miss that appointment because you didn’t write it in that handy little planner you just had to have.
Actual New Year’s Resolutions:
Instead of trying to change myself into the perfect girl on the TV in the magazines, I’m going to try and be just exactly the way I was meant to be. I can’t be perfect and my resolution is to realize that.
