The pictures above are from Refinery 29, which pointed out recently that a lot of menswear has been leaning toward the floral and pastel lately. I knew they were right as soon as I read it, since it brought to mind a different picture that I saw on Style Salvage about a month ago and saved...
Honestly, I like the trend! I've always liked men in any pastel color, and though I'm not sure about the shoes, I've liked all the floral styles I've seen on men as well.
But what I want to know is what you guys think! Do you like the pastel/floral menswear trend? Is the floral thing too much for you or the men you know? Do you love it?
This amazing house was designed by Senosiain Arquitectos for a couple in Mexico City after they decided they wanted a house that looked like a snail shell! They now live there with their children. I can't even imagine what it must be like to live in a house like that! I especially love the rainbow glass front window. For more detailed information about the house, and some more incredible pictures, see this page on DVICE.
So, the sweet cassette tape art above has been around the internet enough lately that I'm pretty confident you guys have all seen it...
(If you haven't, or haven't had your fill, check out this page, which has a variety of the pieces, some of which you might not have seen.)
But look at this other cassette art I came across today...
A cassette tape scarf - pretty interesting right? I don't know how long it would last being worn, but shoot, I'd wear it!
I wonder what we'll do next with tapes!?

It's almost time for Easter, which means it's time to eat Peeps! Yum!
The Chicago Tribune has a neat slideshow of the Peeps factory that I enjoyed - you can check it out here. See a few of the shots below! (I found the cool swordfighting Peeps picture here.)
Peeps without sugar-coating look a little bit scary!
Yum...

This pillow blanket by Joon & Jung looks so so comfortable. It makes me want to sleep just looking at it! It's a neat idea too, sewing together many pillows. What do you think?
I recently saw these cuddly crochet pals by GourmetAmigurumi and I can't get over the little details! I love their expressions and clothing and even their little eyes! Definitely check out GourmetAmigurumi's blog, as she posts lots of her work in progress which is cool to see, as well as patterns and tips!
Today the sweater designers are using some of their color scrap bins, and they have them laying out and looking very tempting! They are sorted by color, and have the feel of a very pretty mess! I'm quite inspired...

I came across these on Made you Look. Neat, right? I can't decide if I think they are legitimately from the 70's or not. Perhaps! Either way, I like them, and that they're "films." A tiny drop more of information at Made You Look.
The author of Mission Mission spotted this little installation attached to the wall of the building across the street from her/his apartment. I love it - I'd like to imagine some little person actually does live in there! See more pictures here.
What do you guys think of these studded ballet slippers from Bona Drag? I saw them on Ma Frangine and I've been thinking about them ever since! I love the mix of boy and girl style. How about you?

Believe it or not, this vase is also a working faucet! It was designed by David Vercelli for the Italian bathroom company Hego Waterdesign. I love the look and the thought behind this faucet, but I have to agree with Apartment Therapy when they say that they aren't sure they'd be too keen to drink from it. Still, what a neat design!

This quick little time-lapse video of a thunderstorm is so awesome! I especially love the planes racing by and the lightening! It's part of a whole set of time-lapse videos of nature that I saw on Wired. They were all really cool! See them here.
I'm crazy about these images by Carlo Van De Roer, aren't they fabulous!? I'd love to have a giant mural of one for a wall in my living room. The feeling of these pictures is like another world!
It's a real pleasure to announce the two randomly chosen winners of yesterday's giveaway!
Congratulations to Amanda! I plan on getting more creative with the old things in my closet I've forgotten about. Scissors, bleach and bright colored dyes!!
and
Congratulations to Hilary Kate! I'm so excited, I love spring and all the new delicious clothes I get to bring into my everyday life. I've gotten some awesome big and small flowy hats and dresses that i can't wait to wear.
Hooray! Thank you all so much for participating! It's always so much fun to see all your answers, and especially fun to read your thoughts on spring style this time around!
And if you didn't win, don't lose hope! As always, there are more giveaways close on the horizon...
I just spent way too long looking at everything on Shiraz Fuman's site and Flickr feed. Her stuff is so awesome - I love the style and how it's a little bit surreal!
I am so inspired by this beautiful crochet blanket from the ladies of The Purl Bee. I love the idea to just make one giant Granny Square as a blanket. The colors are gorgeous too! But the best part is that they have a really good tutorial for making Granny Squares! Now I just need to graduate to making giant Granny Squares.
Check out this picture from Chinese Fashion Week that I saw over on Jezebel. Interesting huh? I like all the details, but I'm not sure about any of the pieces as a whole. What do you guys think? There's a bigger version of the picture here.
Hello and and welcome again to our Thursday Poll! Last week we voted on short skirts, and chose Bindi's Studded Skirt as our current favorite!
This week I want to ask you about tunics (and dresses that can sort of double as tunics) since I have been hoping to add a few more to my wardrobe shortly! Check out of few of the ones we currently have in our collection below.
One of our former design team employees, Michelle, recently dug up our Art Director Doub's glove project from many years ago, and posted it on her blog! You can see it above, it's pretty fabulous - I couldn't resist sharing it with you guys as well!
Here's a little note from Doub about where the inspiration for this project came from: Well what became fascinating for me when I started the glove project was how elaborately detailed each pair of gloves were. And with each glove it's delicate little details really dictated each design. I had become obsessed with gloves and was scouring the city for them mainly for the strange need to cut one of the pair up into a silhouette. I still have such an appreciation for the amazing craftsmanship and design of gloves.
It really is a very inspiring project! And speaking of inspiration, our friend Michelle's blog is called Inspiration Resource, and aptly so! You should definitely check it out if you feel so inclined...

I seriously need a set of these crayon rings by Timothy Liles! How fun are these, for kids and adults alike?! If I wore them anywhere I'd probably draw on everything I walked by though... You can get yourself a set at The Future Perfect.
I am totally amazed by this piece by Lynette Andreasen! She found an antique silver platter and embroidered an outline of an old image of her father's family onto it. When I first saw the top picture, I thought it was embroidered leather and that it was very cool - so you can imagine my reaction when I found it was a silver platter - even cooler! Check out Lynette's pictures too; she has an interesting little artist's statement there.

This little video by Johnny Kelly follows the life of a seed! It's really neat; I love the style of the animation! Give it a spin, I think you'll enjoy it too!
I am in love with these exquisite dainty little underthings by Stumpet & Pink. They're too delicate for me though, I would definitely inadvertently rip seams and tear them up if I wore any! They are so so pretty to look at though. What do you guys think?
Motoi Yamamoto creates these amazing designs with loose salt, or salt baked into bricks for large structures. He started using salt as his only medium when his sister passed away from brain cancer twelve years ago, and he looks at his labyrinth-esque art as at once futile yet necessary to his healing. It's also interesting to note that in Japanese culture salt is often considered a symbol of purity.
See a nice interview with Motoi here.
Via here & here.
I love this quote from Alex Wang. Do you have any tricks to making your t-shirts or anything else (jeans, boots, etc) super comfy and worn looking? I like to wash new t-shirts, and stretch out the neck a bit. How about you???
There are no words for this video other than totally awesome! Samsung paid these guys to go to Wales and put some LED lights on sheep and herd them into patterns to make different displays! The sheep were probably kind of confused, but boy did they help make some cool visuals! Check it out, it is just amazing!
P.S. Props to the sheepdogs too!

I really like this idea from Daily Danny to use stick pins as a wall decoration. I think the care taken in making the letters a good font shape really makes the decoration! It looks so cool!
Granted, some of us are less than keen to make a million holes in the wall... But, you could always use corkboard or something else as a base!
So I was browsing around Craftzine and I saw an awesome DIY for making zig-zag patches like the ones shown above! I love patches like that, and the DIY has a bunch of pictures; it seems really easy! Check it out!
One other thing, also on Craftzine, I saw the picture below:
It reminded me that everything looks better with googly eyes! I need to buy a little bag of them and go wild...
I know many of you may have already seen this video, but since I posted earlier today about the Hindu holiday Holi, I couldn't resist posting this old video we have of two of our designers enjoying Holi at one of our factories in India. They happened to be there working during the festival that year, and had a blast celebrating with everyone! It looks like so much fun!
These are from Boston.com's cool photo blog, The Big Picture. They're shots of the huge Hindu fesitival Holi, which is celebrated by, among other things, throwing colored power and water on one another! The colors are so gorgeous, and it looks like so much fun! Very spring! See more here!

These silver rings come with one, two, or four Lego studs on the top - so you can put any Lego piece you want on them! I love it! If I had one I would definitely put the little Lego flowers on top, it looks so cute! These are by far the best Lego rings I've seen, and there are quite a few varieties out there.
These adorable fashion illustrations are from the blog Fifi Lapin, which I just discovered and am totally in love with! It's a fashion blog, and it follows Fifi, who is the world's most stylish bunny according to Elle magazine - hehe! Other than the fashion illustrations and cute bunny storyline, Fifi does a nice job of showcasing a lot of current fashion. It's worth scoping out!
Meet our latest featured Facebook friend - Samantha!
Samantha came to our attention after she posted some amazing photos that she took on her grandparents farm in North Carolina, in which she models her Pointillism Dress with the Diamond Crochet Halter Bralette. She took all the pictures herself with a timer, and had to run to get in the spot she wanted to be! They look great though! Samantha was kind enough to share the pictures with us and with you, and they are posted down below...
We also asked Samantha a few profile-type questions, just for fun! You might be surprised to learn that she is not a full time photographer, but actually a Geodetic Surveyor for an aerial mapping company. How cool is that?!
Where do you live?
Anchorage, Alaska
What do you do?
Haha, well, thats hard to explain! I'm a geodetic surveyor for an aerial mapping company. Basically, I take various data and turn them into something useful and cool to look at. I work in a field with a lot of big, gruff men so it's a bit strange for everyone that I'm this tiny girl. I don't fit the stereotype at all!
What draws you to the Free People style?
I love the patterns and designs. I really love the farmer'sdaughter collection! The styles are carefree, but well thought out. It's about loving what you put on and feeling great in it. Free People brings out the girly side of me! As a college student I wasn't concerned with what I wore and now I'm trying to break the habit of jeans and a sweatshirt everyday. I want to wear cute dresses and boots and dress them up with random pieces of jewelry!
What is your favorite article of Free People clothing?
Well, the dress in the photos is definitely my favorite- I immediately fell in love! But being in Alaska I won't get to wear it as much. :(
I wear Free People jeans nearly every day (they fit so well) as well as my navy retro puff jacket. They are my faithful standbys! I wish I could replace my whole closet, because FP style fits so well with my personality and the style of clothes I would make if I could make them myself.
Do you have any pets?
I have two tabby cats: Lucy is 3 years old and I recently got her a playmate Thomas who is 7 months (and already as big as Lucy!) I rescued Lucy from a shelter and Thomas from a foster mom. Lucy is such a trouble maker! Her favorite thing to play with are hairbands, but you have to watch her or she'll eat them. She also greatly enjoys dragging my clothes out to the food dish. I named Thomas that because we have always had orange tabby cats named Tom in my family. They were all huge and very affectionate - which he is turning out to be!
What inspires you?
I gather inspiration from a lot of things: traveling and learning, the creativity/ideas of others (I have a serious addiction to home decorating magazines), rummaging through my grandparents place for old items (I found an awesome collection of vintage buttons), and of course Free People- I find the photography as well as the clothes inspiring!
What do you do in your spare time?
In the winter time? Hibernate! The rest of the time I like fishing, camping, sea kayaking, and beach combing.
What do you like best about where you live?
Alaska is gorgeous and there is so much to do in the summertime! Summers are even better here because we get about 20 hours of daylight. In the winter the northern lights are out and they are always spectacular! Everyone should make a trip at some point in their lives to get up here- I've not met one person who didn't love it.
What do you like best about springtime?
The whole world is waking up. A few weeks ago the finches showed up at the bird feeder for the first time since winter started. I was just as excited as the cats! You can feel the energy and excitement of longer days, warmer weather, summer activities- it's time to come out of hibernation!
Hooray! Thank you Samantha! This was fun!

Nicole, Pruitt and I made this video as we played with all of the different ways to wear the Free People chain vests. I love that just one piece can be worn as a necklace, a belt, a bracelet, a vest, or even to embellish your favorite boots!
What is your favorite way to style them?
Pick out your own from the four different styles on freepeople.com
These collages by Anna Kunz may not be intentionally spring-y, but they sure do look wonderfully springtime to me! I love the colors she used, as did Dear Ada, where I saw the collages! She actually painted the papers first, then cut them up to make the collages. They're so appealing...
Believe it or not, Easter is already around the corner, and Retro Mama made these awesome little fabric Easter eggs! I love them! Even better, she posted a how-to make them on her blog - it looks like it will be really easy! Worth checking out if you want to make some cute Easter treats!
Model Natasa Vojnovic gets crazy for Terry Richardson! This is such a preformance for a photo shoot, they all must have had a blast! I love at the end with Terry just can't help laughing. The photos are in the March issue of Purple.
What a week my friends! They sure do seem to speed by! Happy Thursday! Last time on our Thursday Poll we voted on a few rompers, and decided that our favorite is the Grafitti Peacock Romper, which won with 178 votes!
This week I have been perusing all of our cute short skirts! I am interested to know which short skirt styles appeal to you guys the most - so here goes!
You can see the ocean from our newsest store in Manhattan Beach! We are two blocks up from the water and on a hill, so the view is amazing. Come see us tomorrow for the opening!
I can hardly believe these are line drawings, they're so detailed and patterned! They are the work of Japanese artist Kosuke Ikeda, who uses gel ink ball point pens to create these unique pieces. He has many other visually interesting works on his site as well, worth checking out!

How about this hoodie made partially from a blow-up doll by Mama Anders? I first noticed it because I thought it was funny to have a face on the back of your head, I didn't realize it was a blow up doll until looking closer.
Mama Anders: I customize existing tracksuit tops with parts of the blow-up dolls...These dolls are so ugly and vulgar that turning them into something beautiful has become a challenge for me. The doll is a means to convey something else. Interesting!
Running the Numbers is an interesting set of photos by photographer Chris Jordan, in which each picture has a specific quantity of a mass-consumed item. For example, one photo features fifteen million sheets of office paper (five minutes of average paper use), and another shows 106,000 aluminum cans (about thirty seconds of can consumption). As you might imagine, in real life some of these pictures are huge, like 10 feet by 25 feet! Below are a couple of shots from the set; see more here, they're amazing!
Okay so I know this is slightly old, but I just found out a little bit ago that Christian Siriano, who won Project Runway a while back, designed a bunch of shoes and bags for Payless ShoeSource! Those are some of them above, and for only 25-45$ a pair, they look darn awesome! I'm pretty into this - and I think I will have to get a pair of the chained up shoes in the upper right corner. What do you guys think? Like or no?
Check out this cool video in which model Noot Seear shows off the inside of her closet! She has so many awesome items - I can't get over it! She has very 'boy' taste - lots of plaids and studs, chains, leather, distressed denim - she's like a We The Free poster girl! And speaking of, you may recognize Noot from our current catalog - she's in it a whole bunch!
Enjoy!
Pruitt mentioned a Bleach Black DIY yesterday, and of course we love Kristin and Val! So we are a little sad that we don't live in LA. The Bleach Black girls will be hosting a DIY session at Space 15 Twenty this Sunday! I hope someone gets some pictures!
If you go, make sure to stop by our We the Free store and say hello to the girls.
I adore these prints by Joseph over at Biscuitlove! Our Web Marketing Manager, Heather, bought the top print the other day and hasn't stopped talking about it! I can't blame her, they're all so cool!

Massimo Gammacurta created these still life shots, which feature the logos of some famous fashion labels (I bet you know which ones!) as lollipops! Interesting, but mainly makes me want to go grab a dum-dum...
Via Yatzer.
BleachBlack took this old tee and burned some holes it - and I love how it looks! She explains best what she did, so here is a quote: For starters, I think vintage tee’s with some sort of faded graphic work best… after all the point is for it to look lived in, right?! I would also make sure the tee is 100% cotton for best results. I used cigarettes, although I’m sure you could use some incense… just as long as it produces an ash. When the ash is sitting on the fabric it should burn from the center out and create this lovely burn color + hole.
Awesome! I can't wait to try it the moment I get home from work today...
Can you believe this odd rug by Laurens Van Wieringen? It's made out of little bits of polyurethane foam, in different colors and heights that make a mini-landscape! I would love to walk on it in bare feet - I bet it feels awesome!
I'm finding these knit creations by Sandra Backlund really impressive. They are so visually interesting, complex and unique! I especially love the back of the fourth one, but they are all really gorgeous! Do you guys like them too? Have you ever seen anything like them?
Have you heard this song Day n Nite by Kid Cudi? I am obsessed! I have been listening to it over and over since this weekend, and the video is totally awesome! Check it out!
I am really into Jason Fiske lately - I love the surreal nature of his work and the variety within it. When I look at his art I feel like I'm traveling! See lots more here!

Susie Bubble posted some pics from the new issue of Dazed and the styling is incredible! It's not just about statement necklaces any more, these photos make me want to cover myself in dripping chains! Can't wait to see the credits to learn who made all of this amazing jewelry.
Check out Susie's commentary on the shoot and more photos
I was going to say this is the first pair of Nike sneakers I've wanted in many years, but it occurred to me that this is the first pair of any sneakers that I've wanted in many years! I've had the same pair of Converse for a long time!
At any rate, I spotted these on StyleBubble and did a double-take! I love those prints! Word is that they are very hard to come by however.
So what do you guys think? Awesome, or not your style?
Photographer Kevin Bauman has taken pictures of 100 different abandoned houses and posted them here on the net! I love old abandoned areas, houses and such - they are so interesting and there is something about them that just makes you want to look! See them all here.

This awesome house, called House C, was designed by Japanese architect Hiroshi Nakamura. I've seen a lot of houses built into hills with a sort of hill roof, but I haven't seen any houses quite like this, with a normal flat roof with a garden/meadow on top. Isn't it so awesome?! I would love to be that little girl...
Above are some of my favorite looks from Alexander McQueen's show in Paris on Tuesday. I hate the make-up, personally, but I would sure love to have pretty much any dress from the show! Also, those silver sequined boots in the middle picture are driving me crazy! I might have to go to the craft store and get glitter or sequins and make myself some knock-offs! You can see pictures of all the outfits from the show here. What do you guys think of the show? Did you like any of the collection?
See Amy Odell of New York Magazine's take on the show here. The pictures above are also via New York Magazine.
How about these eccentric designs by Jean-Charles de Castelbajac? I am so entertained by them! I think out of the six I would most like to wear the dollar-bill dress - though the Andy Warhol dress is pretty awesome as well. What do you guys think? These are some seriously over-the-top designs, but they sure are memorable!
I can't get over the cute customizable kid's party invitations that Paper Heart Press makes!
I won't be turning 1 any time again, but I am tempted to get some of these for my next party, even though they're supposed to be for kids! Too cute & clever! See more here.
As usual, Thursday surprised me! This week, I nearly didn't notice it was Thursday poll time! He he! But here we are, and it's poll time!
We thought about summer hats last week, and ended up deciding that our favorite is the Woven Rainbows Straw Hat, followed very closely by the Raffia Cowgirl Hat.
This week I am wondering what you think of out new short-leg rompers! We have quite a few new ones and they are all really cute! I like them all pretty equally myself, I may have to wait and think a bit before I cast my vote!
How incredible and fantastical and delightful are these headdresses by Louis Mariette? Dazed Digital hosts an interview with the London designer. Read about his inspirations including, Diana Ross, a certain movie set in India, and growing up in Africa.

This striking young 8 year old is Arlo Weiner, the son of Matt Weiner, producer of The Sopranos and Mad Men. He is so cool! Arlo has been creating his own looks since the age of 3, when he asked his parents to get him a top hat. GQ has an awesome little article about him that I bet you'll like, and they have a slideshow featuring some of Arlo's favorite outfits, which is where I got the pictures above. These fun milk cartons were designed by hattomonkey, and I think they are really interesting! Why aren't more labels colorful and cross-stitched looking?
These awesome light trees, created by designer Alexander Lervik, are made with a steel frame and tons of plastic fibre. The light source is a projector that lets you make the tree any color you want, and the tree can of course be outside or inside. I want one! I want three! I would put them inside, if i had room, how awesome would that be?!
I am obsessed by Cindy Riccardelli's jewelry right now! I love the huge masses of beads and how textured and chunky her work is. As much chunky jewelry is out there these days, I haven't seen any quite like these - they really make a statement! I love the colors too, especially the first one! Cindy also paints and makes dolls- you can see all of her work, including a lot more jewelry, here on her site!

Um, holy cow! These limited edition Marie Antoinette heels by Christian Louboutin run a very steep $6,295.00! Only 36 pairs were made, all of which have already been purchased.
My question to you is, $6,000 aside, do you like them? Bleach Black, which is where I saw them, hates them. I'm not so sure about the ankle strap, or the yellow color really, but I love the purple and red trim going all around the edge. I love trim around the edges of shoes! What do you guys think?
The buying team took a trip to New York a couple of weeks ago to go to the tradeshows and do some shopping. We were in Fabulous Fanny's in the east village and spotted these amazing vintage folding sunglasses. We each bought a pair!
They come in very unique shapes and fold up to fit in a little pouch. Mine were a little big, so the shop owner used this machine that heats the frames and shaped them to fit my face better! The shop specializes in vintage and antique eyewear, and has other great vintage accessories too.
Barcode Revolution creates these specialized barcodes for a number of major Japanese brands. I love them! I have often wondered why we don't do something creative with barcodes - I hope this idea makes it to the US!
Also, don't you think one of these would look cool as the graphic on a tee-shirt? Maybe the castle one...
This is just amazing! A man in Suffolk UK built this incredible glass house, with a slide-over cover, for he and his wife to retire in... I would love to live here!
Our newest catalog drops today! We're super excited about this book and can't wait to hear what you think. We shot it in a studio rather than on location, stripped it down and really focused on the models and the clothing and the styling.
Check out the photos online (or check your mailbox) and let us know what you think! Some "behind the scenes" info coming at you tomorrow, so check back then.
I completely love these designs by Monique Goossens! Especially the cup with a table and chairs - wow! See more here.
Also, why doesn't my coffee maker look like this? Too cute!
I appreciate these two-tone lips created by Tom Pecheux for the Emanuel Ungaro show, but I'm not sure if I could pull this look off myself. I want to try it though! What do you guys think? Do you like the look? Would you wear it?
This is Kelburn Castle in Scotland, which in June 2007 was partially painted by the Sao Paolo Crew, who are Brazilian graffiti artists. It looks so cool! I love to see a castle that is over 500 years old covered in some modern graffiti art! And it's so detailed! What do you guys think?
Aren't these cups so cute? I just love them! Find them on MollaSpace.
...I wonder how hard it would be to make a similar cup except star-shaped? That would be really cool too!
The awesome week-long musical summer camp Girls Rock Philly is looking for volunteers for it's upcoming session this August! The all-girls camp targets musical development, self-esteem enhancement, friendship & community building, and nurturing individual talents within a cooperative atmosphere. During the week long camp, the campers form bands, and at the end of the week put on a concert! The campers and volunteers (who do not need to play an instrument or be in a band) have a blast!
They are having a meet-&-greet for volunteers a week from this Sunday. Check out the specifics if you're interested! There's also a Girls Rock Portland and a Girls Rock Chicago that I bet are starting to look for volunteers as well!
Below, check out a few of the bands from last year's camp. They are so awesome!
You may remember a while ago when we first got our pet-camera, and Trixie tried it out for us. The camera clips to your pet's collar and takes a picture once a minute so that you can see their view of the world! Well, today we had a new photographer try out the pet-cam for us! Meet Pilgrim, the sweet dog of Carrie, our Assistant Art Director.
Pilgrim wore the pet-cam for a while today and showed us the home office from a doggy point of view! His pictures are pretty fun, check them out below!
Isn't this tea bag crazy? Korean designer Wonsik Chae came up with this idea for a light in the shape of a tea bag! Each time you dip the bag in and out of the water, like regular tea, it gets darker - or rather, brighter! The bag has florescent chemicals in it that react with the water and glow. Reminds me of those old party glow-sticks!
Several of my FAVORITE bloggers are talking about our Jeffrey Campbell Lace Up Peep Toes, I thought I'd give you the inside scoop. We are selling out fast! We are totally loving the nude color. You can seriously wear them with ANYTHING.
If we don't have your size we are receiving more in May, but not in the grey. So get them now if you want them!
I'm really feeling these Matryoshka dolls by Irina Troitskaya. I've always loved Matryoshka dolls, and these ones are so cool and unique! All of her sets have a specific theme - for example, the top set is naturally white animals, another set is called the most popular animals from Russian fairytales. I love it! See more on Booooooom!
I find these pieces by Do-Ho Suh really interesting! His work mostly deals with questions of individuality and anonymity, or the transience of existence, reportedly inspired by his time in the military. There is something about all the small parts building up a whole in the first two pieces that is really fascinating to me. What do you guys think? See more of Do-Ho's work on Design Crisis.
Whenever it's time for the Thursday Poll, it always seems to surprise me that it's Thursday already - every week! But it is Thursday, and it's time for our poll!
We decided last week that Orange Ocean is our favorite color of the Boyeee Tee, though it was actually a really even vote!
This week, I am excitedly looking at our hats - soon we won't have to wear winter ones anymore, but sweet summer hats! I can't wait! We have some really cute summer hats right now, and I am wondering which styles you prefer...
I am loving Erica Somogyi's paintings lately! I saw some of them on My Love for You, and since then I have been on her site looking at everything! I love the colors and the dreaminess!
Coincidentally, Erica's work has been making the rounds lately, and on this Friday night at 7pm you can see her work at Space 1026 here in Philly! For those interested...
Genetic is our new favorite denim brand! So many people in the home office have them and have made them their everyday jeans. These home office girls pictured are some of the happy customers! (including myself! I got a phone call during the picuture taking.)
What we love is how super comfy they are and the great fit. The wash is really detailed with wear and whiskers, and the holes give them some attitude. But they are still subtle so you can wear them every day.
Ever heard of The Sketchbook Project? It's awesome! Something like 2,000 people from around the country signed up, and were sent a blank Moleskine sketchbook. The only instructions were to send the books back by Feb 15th, and fill them with "everyone we know." Art House, which is a group dedicated to bringing art to the masses, is responsible for the creation and managing of the project. I think that is so cool! I only wish I would have known in time to participate! But maybe next time?
For now, the books that Art House got back are going on tour, and tonight they stop in Philadelphia! Head over to Chris' Jazz Cafe at 1421 Sansom Street tonight for a chance to flip through all the books. The books will be making the rounds at a bunch of other cities as well; click here to see a list of all the places and dates! Below find just a few pages of the many many books - click here to see a gallery of the submissions!
Thank you all so much for participating in the Lisa Hannigan giveaway!
Your answers about which pages you liked most and your favorite kinds of music were really interesting!
And now for the winners, chosen at random:
Congratulations to Maria! My goodness. This is a fantastic video.
So many images and favorites!
But I'd have to say my favorite page/part is right about 2:22
Where she's pulling him into the boat.
Congratulations to Alicia! I like the romantic aspect of it, like the page when the girl comes and saves him from the water and when they're on the island holding hands.
Congratulations to Kelsey! I love old folk music like James Taylor and Joni Mitchell..
Hooray! And thank you again, to everyone, for participating! We will be doing another giveaway very soon- stay tuned!
Welcome to the desk of Alex, one of our designers for We The Free knits and Free People pants!
I really like this composition here, so inspiring!
How awesome is that little tool box? Alex found it at a salvage warehouse in northern Philadelphia. The cool string of leather mini-pennants are from a Tokyo vintage store that specializes in classic men's workwear and collegiate athletic wear. More than likely they traveled from the USA to the store in Tokyo, and then back to the USA again when Alex bought them! A well traveled knick-knack!
These wooden postcards are really fun, though they didn't actually come from Anchorage Alaska! Rather, they are from a bookstore in New York City!
I love this deer flask! It's another Philly find, this time in West Philadelphia.
The awesome horse painting is from a whole collection of paint-by-number horse paintings that Alex found in her house!
These old children's encyclopedias, besides looking gorgeous on the outside, have really cool pictures on the inside that the We The Free girls frequently use for inspiration! I think those might be the makings of another post...
As someone who really enjoys watching people, this video just delights me! On a vacation in Tomakomai, Hokkaido, Japan, some people put their camera on the conveyor belt at a local sushi restaurant. I love watching everyone's reactions as they notice (or don't notice) the camera rolling by! It's like a little seven minute vacation...
Remember this awesome music video by Lisa Hannigan that I posted a while back? The pop-up book is so cool, and the song is really sweet!
Well, I have some fun news! Lisa was so kind as to donate three t-shirts, three packets of adorable buttons, and three copies of her new album, Sea Sew, for me to give away to you! How awesome is that?! The stuff is all very cute too! And who doesn't want a free new album?
So now is the fun part - the giveaway! For your chance to win a Lisa Hannigan t-shirt, album, and some buttons, all you have to do is leave a comment on this post and answer one of the following two questions: What page in the pop-up book in the music video is your favorite?
or What type of music is your favorite?
Three comments will be chosen at random, and if your comment is one of those chosen, you win! It's just that easy! Don't forget to include your email address with your comment, so that if you win I can contact you! I will announce the winners tomorrow evening! Yay! Good luck!
P.S. In Philadelphia? Don't miss Lisa's show at the World Cafe on this coming Thursday night! It's an event not to be missed! See all her dates on her site!
I saw these gorgeous map quilts by Leah Evans on Design Crisis, and I am really impressed with them! I love maps, I love quilting, it's a great combination! They sure look like they'd be difficult to make, though worth it! To see more of Leah's work, check out her site, and for more interesting quilts, see here, here, and here.
Ah! I love this kitty hat, and its cute little ears! I am definitely going to make myself one too, since happily CraftStylish has a sweet tutorial for it! Check it out if you feel inclined like I do...
Have you guys seen these behind-the-ear earrings that have been popping up lately?
There are pictures featuring them floating around the internet, but I haven't really seen information about them. I like them! Do you? Would you wear them? Have you heard anything about them? How on earth do they stay on?
These trees manipulated into sculptures are so interesting! They can be found at the Tree Circus of Axel Erlandson. Erlandson passed away in 1964, but people are still enjoying his trees at their home in Gilroy, California. More about arbor sculpture here, and more about Axel Erlandson here.
We are really excited to be selling jewelry from Nikki B designing from Santiago,Chile. Nikki employs women in Chile to bead jewelry in their homes on their own time providing extra income. The extra income helps many of these women and their families, paying for running hot water or their children's education.
Nikki's inspiration is the beautiful country of Chile, it's colors and landscape as well as her own intrinsic modern taste. The jewelry is made with glass beads, handmade sterling silver and vermeil beads, seeds, shells, semi precious stones, silk thread, leather and local mystical wood carvings from the mountain region of Chile.
I am obsessed by the graphics on these antique German notgeld, or emergency money. Notgeld was printed by small municipalities and town banks in Germany from WWI through the 1920's and 30's. Though it was not legal currency, it was generally accepted, and actually proved useful due to the outrageous inflation in Germany at the time. These scans are all from Flickr user Iliazd, who has an awesome notgeld set with something like 900 different marks in it! If you love sweet graphics or history, or both, be sure to give it a browse.
