Black*Eiffel spotted these sweet old cartography maps, so carefully made by Harold Fisk in 1944! They portray the alluvial valley of the lower Mississippi River, and the ribbons of color are the banks of the river at various times in history. Very interesting, and very very pretty. See the whole set at Radical Cartography!
The latest issue of Dazed has a cool piece on some of the newest models who walked the London catwalks this year. The pictures remind me of the work by Daniel Newman that I posted here a while back.
This video is really fun! I've seen these giant pianos for dancing before, but I've sure never seen anyone playing it with such skill! These folks do a little routine and play Bach's Toccata and Fugue in D minor on it! Sweet!
Meet our friend Brittaney! (And her fiancé Adam!)
Brittaney resides in Bellingham, Washington, and is one of the star item reviewers on our website! She reviews using the nickname mushroommoon, and is a total Free People girl, who loves to create and be outside!
She writes: I appreciate dark, earthy, grungy clothing with a fine feminine touch.
To our delight, Brittaney agreed to do a mini-interview with us and tell us a little more about herself! Read on...
So, what do you do for a living?
I am currently attending Western Washington University for a Bachelors of Fine Arts in Studio Art.
What do you like to do for fun?
When I'm not doing homework, I paint, cycle with my fiance Adam, roll around on the bed with our corgi Morton, obsessively read Marx, and garden. :)
What music do you enjoy?
My favorite bands are Joy Division, New Order, Talking Heads, Neil Young, Can, and Nick Drake!
Who is your style star?
David Byrne and Siouxsie Sioux!
What inspires you?
Working on a project in studio with filthy hands and filthy clothes...
Describe your style in 3 words.
grunge, flowers, earthy
Name 3 wardrobe essentials for summer!
Flip Flops, flowers in my hair, and mismatched, bright accessories!
Some final thoughts to share?
I only shop at the local Food Co-op. I buy organic, grow my own food, and I never eat factory farmed meat. Environmentalism is very important to me.
Yay! Thank you for sharing all this with us Brittaney! It's been a pleasure!
If you would like to see all of Brittaney's (a.k.a. mushroommoon's) FP clothing reviews, click here! She has some helpful feedback!
These images by Alinka Echeverría are just amazing! They are from a series of photos and video that she has done called Lightness of Being, which features, as you can see, stunning shots of synchronized swimmers underwater. I really love that the waterline is at the bottom of the picture - it gives a whole different perspective than one usually sees in underwater photos. Awesome! If you have a moment you should totally go to her site and watch the video - it is like the pictures, only even better - just incredible!
These two pictures are some candids taken at a shoot we did for next week's freepeople.com homepage. In the second picture they were trying to avoid getting her tights in the shot so she just pulled them below her knees. Looks more like she couldn't wait for the bathroom!
And this is some fun our graphic designer Lizzie made a while back and we just held onto becuase it is amazing!

Canadian artist Janet Hill remarks in her Etsy store description, "As a result of living in a cold climate for six months of the year, I've developed a strong interest in the beauty of interiors." I can tell, and I love it! Her paintings are so glamorous and soft! Be sure to check out her blog if you enjoy the paintings above, as she has lots and lots of her work posted there!
One of our designers brought the picture below to my attention - it's so fun to see people out and about wearing FP! It came from a Perez Hilton post about Kate's new brunette hairdo - but check out her shirt! It's our Printed Dreamweaver Tank in Purple Sun!
Ryanne, who designed the tank, was really psyched! And what's extra cute is that she happens to be wearing that very tank, in that color, today! So random!
Here she is being happy and cute below!
These lovely pieces by Eugenia Pardue are in fact paintings! I would have never guessed it - I thought they were molds or something like that. But as it turns out, these are paintings, acrylic on panel. They're also pretty big! Most of her work is at least 2' by 2', or bigger. I'm trying to imagine how she built up the designs with the acrylic paint, because they are so carefully crafted and textured. I'm totally amazed! See more on her site.
I love this dreamy editorial from Harper's Bazaar UK that I saw on Coco+Kelley! I especially love all the billowy layers in the first shot - that is an outfit for me!
Hooray! It's Thursday, and it's time for our Thursday Poll! Last week we took a look at some of the many ways to wear our Riding Hood Convertible Tee, and decisively chose the racerback tank styling as our favorite! It got 253 votes!
This week I want to ask you about some of our summer dresses and see which ones you guys really like!
Hey Chicagoland!
Our newest store is opening tomorrow in Highland Park, at 642 Central Avenue! We are so excited to open this new location, and we hope you'll come visit us soon!
These pieces by Ulrik Martin Larsen are so carefully made and interesting! They look really intricate and delicate and yet the chains give a lot of them a very tough feel! They're so inspiring - people have been doing such great things with chains lately! I also really, really like the one in the second picture down because of those little wood fingers along the edges! What do you guys think?
When I first saw these pictures I immediately liked the beautiful cross-stitched design on the cars - but I didn't realize until I looked a bit harder that the designs are literally cross-stitched into holes in the hood of the car! How amazing! They were created by Lithuanian artist Severija Incirauskaite-Kriauneviciene for Berlin art show Strich Und Faden. Cool, right?
The designs on these (very) old calling cards are gorgeous! I love the thought of a time when people would come see you, and leave cards to say they came by if you weren't there, or to invite you to parties, or better yet, make romantic advances! Maybe sometime, somehow, calling cards will come back...
Anyhow, these beauties came from Dull Tool Dim Bulb - check it out for a few more.
Every Monday through Friday for 20 weeks, Ann Wood, of Ann Wood Handmade, made one horse, until she had 100! Each horse is made from cardboard and hand-painted, with cute button joints! Ann currently has the horses as decoration above her bed - don't you love them? I want to make my own, and conveniently, Ann put together a DIY tutorial for Design*Sponge! Check it out here - even if you don't want to make a horse it's pretty cool to see how she did it!
Why don't people do more things like this? I love it! Artist Posterchild turned this abandoned newspaper box into a planter, with the help of a couple pieces of wood! There are so many empty newspaper boxes around Philly - I think we need some flowers for them! Click here for better pictures.
Aren't these paintings by Shelton Walsmith lovely? I really love the colors and the abstract feel. Be sure to check out his website - all of his work is really good! I would have put every painting he has in this post if I could have!
There's something really appealing about these yarn wrapped beads - I don't know if it's just that they are so whimsical and tiny, or the colors, or what! They're made by Maria Cavallero of Argentina, who has many more of these little charmers on her Etsy - take a look if you feel so inclined!
I'm really into these intricate pen and ink drawings by Yellena James - they're so detailed and organic! Like landscapes within themselves... See more here.
One of Design*Sponge's guest bloggers, (I can't figure out who,) made these adorable sheep crackers at home! Aren't they totally awesome?! She was kind enough to post a how-to as well, be sure to check it out!
I really love these crazy drawings by James Roper! There is so much happening in them! These are from a set called Rapture, but if you're into them you should definitely check out the work on the rest of his site, as he has lots of work where he experiments with color and lines in a similar way. Fun stuff!
This video is so funny and cool! It's an old clip from the 1930's, in which a few fashion designers predicted what they thought people would be wearing in the future! For being so far back as the 30's, their predictions weren't totally off base, I thought. Enjoy!
Frieda Gossett dyes, treats, and hand-stamps designs onto leather before turning it into various creatures. I can't imagine how long it must take to hand-stamp each little detail into the leather! It's got to be quite a process! Totally worth it though, these animals are just amazing! I'm especially impressed with the scales on the hammerhead - wow!
I'm really intrigued with these designs from up-and-coming designer Iris Van Herpen. They're constructed with such unusual materials, and they're so sculpturally interesting!
Paige, of Paige+Modern, created this awesome portable picnic for your lunch! Isn't it so cute and clever! Paige made a guest post over on Design*Sponge that tells how to make one! I am so on it!
This crazy concrete, called Solid Poetry and designed by Frederik Molenschot and Susanne Happle, shows a pretty design whenever it gets wet, only to have it disappear again once the concrete is dry! I love it! I wish all sidewalks were made with this concrete!
Due in part to her fascination with the stage shows she saw as a girl in which the animals would come on stage with little outfits on, designer Hildegard Bergbauer, who usually designs for women, has started making Dirndl dresses for horses! The horse looks so cute in her dress! Hee hee! Check out Oddly Enough Blog for more.
I absolutely adore this editorial from Cream Magazine! It was photographed by Macushla Burke, and the wonderful illustrations on top, the birds and such, are by artist KellySmith. I saw them on KnightCat and I keep going back to look at them more - they're so inspiring!
These photographs may not seem like much, until you realize that the subject is the sky at varying stages of sunset! What an awesome idea! Gorgeous too. They're by Ann Woo - check out her site here.

If you've visited Philly, or live here, you may already be familiar with the City of Philadelphia Mural Arts Program, which is responsible for helping Philly be the city with the most murals in the USA - we have more than 2,700!
The festive trucks shown above are part of one of the Mural Arts Program's latest projects. Partnering with Philadelphia University's Design Center, together they wrapped 10 of the city's garbage & recycling trucks in these funky all-over prints! They've been doing the rounds with the rest of the trucks since Earth Day, and the other day I saw one on my street! It sounds silly but I was excited! I think next they should wrap all the rest of the trucks...
This clock is so awesome! Doe-C-Doe found it when she was thrift shopping for only $5! This is such an inspirational find - it occurs to me how easy it would be to make your own cross stitch clock! I have seen all sizes of clock fixtures at the craft shop for very cheap! It seems like it would be really fun to create your own cross stitch backing with numbers and decoration, and then attach the fixture for the hands!
Happy Thursday everyone! Last week for our Thursday Poll we took a look at the Draping Frame Tunic, and ended up choosing Ultra Violet as our favorite color for the top, with 205 votes! Wow!
This week I am still scoping out our cool new Riding Hood Convertible Tee - it can be styled in so many different ways! I love it! And I'm curious to know your favorite way to style it! Check out a few of the different ways below...
First have a look at it as a loose hooded tank top!
Next up is the shirt as a long and loose drapey tee!
Now check out the tee as a racerback tank!
Next is the top styled as a cute boyish fitted tee!
Finally, here is the top styled as a sort of wrap top!
Well? Gosh now that I'm looking at them all I am not sure which style is my most favorite... I like them all!
Which way of styling the shirt is your favorite?
P.S. Don't miss our How-To Style video for this top! Watch it here.
These wonderful colorful paintings are by the aptly named Julianna Bright! Such a perfect name for an artist who uses bright color! I've been browsing around her site all morning, getting my fill of her fun little people and their animal buddies... Check out her Etsy shop if you feel the need for a print!
I've been really enjoying the clever images of Sarah Illenberger. She does lots of different work for companies like Vanity Fair, NY Times and Nike, all of which is original and fun like the stuff shown above! Check out her website for more fun stuff.
These chunky felted bead necklaces are so cool! I love how they look, and you know they probably are fun to touch as well! Kleas made the ones shown above with her pre-school class, who then took the necklaces home to their mothers!
She put together some very nice how-to instructions for making the felted beads and the jewelry! It looks really easy and fun, check it out!
Twig & Thistle sewed this cute love letter to her husband. Isn't it totally adorable? It really brightened my day! I'll have to try my hand at letter sewing myself!
These great fashion illustrations are by Monsieur Qui. Aren't they cool?! I really like them, especially the watercolor accents - very inspiring! Be sure to check out Monsieur Qui's blog too, as he keeps some work there that can't be seen on his website!
I love all these animal charms by Happy Owl Glassworks! There are so many different animals I could never pick one; they're all too good!
I can't believe you can get them as night lights, too - that is so awesome! Check out their site here.
I love these pretty and original light shades made by StudioTempera! They are gourds! StudioTempera, which is based in Turkey, hollows them out, decorates them, and then pokes little holes in them to be filled with beads for colored light, or nothing for normal light! They are so beautiful!
These pictures are of a piece Christien Meindertsma created for the exhibit Design for a Living World, which just opened at the Cooper Hewitt National Design Museum in New York. The exhibit aims to tell a unique story about the life-cycle of materials and the power of conservation and design.
For Christien's piece, she used wool from a sustainable sheep ranch in Idaho and created a "flock" of different knit parts, each one made from 3.5 pounds of wool, the yield of a single sheep. Then she sewed them all together to make one huge and heavy knit rug!
It reminds me a bit of those phat knits from before. I love them both! There is something about the thick texture of these giant knits that is irresistible!
You may recall when I posted this and other pieces by Cassandra Rhodin a while back...
To my delight, she recently did some pillowcases for H&M Home, and they look so awesome!
Boy I would love to have a set! They're so pretty!
From the same guy who created the awesome crayon rings, Timothy Liles now brings us these sweet necklaces with chalk pendants! Yet another piece of pretty and colorful jewelry that I would distract myself with constantly if given the chance! Hee hee!
Check out Timothy's site here!
These pictures by Caroline De Vries are really fun! The bright colors remind me of those pictures of the Indian festival Holi that I posteda while back. Check out the rest of Caroline's work on her site.
I'm not sure if any of you already saw this amazing hoodie by Ungaro on Fashion Toast, but I had to put it here just in case! Can you believe all the chains?! Even though I feel like this hoodie might be a bit heavy to wear, I would love to have one. What do you guys think of it? Are you in love like me, or are the chains a bit much for you? I'd be interested to know!
Also one other thing very quickly - look at this necklace!
This picture came from The Moldy Doily. How adorable is that necklace?!
I recently came across Julian Merrow-Smith's site Postcard from Provence, and I am totally obsessed! Originally from the UK, Julian currently lives in the Provence region of France, and each day he posts a new painting he has done, usually on postcard sized paper. As you can see, the paintings are just exquisite - I could look through them all day! You can do the same here.
Ah! Almost too cute- Carina of Carina's Craft Blog made this little crochet holder for her lip balm! It's so pretty, and if you are the type that needs your lip balm always handy, really useful! Check out the tutorial she made here!
This little editorial about shoes from French Marie Claire is so darn cute! The doggies look adorable chewing up the shoes! Though I'm sure if it was a pair of my own shoes I'd feel a bit differently... Hee hee!
It's so muggy in Philadelphia today! It is starting to feel very summery outside and for some reason I just have this great song, Walk Don't Run, by The Ventures stuck in my head! I came across this video of them performing the song live in 1960 - I'm pumped! You don't always find clips like these! It's a little blurry at times but the close ups of their faces while performing are so cute! They look nervous!
Anyway, great song, enjoy!
I love this awesome idea for a deer head decoration from doe-c-doe! She used the pattern from a vintage transfer (the middle picture) and embroidered the deer's features onto the fabric, then backed it with 1/2" foam core. Doesn't it look awesome?!
Be sure to check out doe-c-doe, it's good!
This is another awesome set I saw on The Moldy Doily - unfortunately she can't recall where she found these pictures! They are so fun though - the clothes are like ultimate candyland party time! I would love to own the dress in the second picture especially. Crochet + tulle = yummy!
Do any of you happen to know off-hand where these pictures came from?
Coco+Kelley posted these amazing photographs by Julia Galdo the other day, and I keep coming back to them. Obviously the lighting is very appealing, but there is something else about them too that I really really like! Take a look around Julia's site for more lovely photography.
Using a small loom like one might use for knitting hats, Charlie Bucket knit some plastic piping into a tube and then set it up so that he could push colorful fluids through the tubing. It looks awesome.
I feel like this piece by Delfina Delettrez Fendi, of Fendi, takes the two-finger ring craze and goes a step further. Isn't it wild?! It's so loud, but I don't dislike it! I'd never have an occasion to wear something like that, but it looks cool on the model's hand. What do you guys think? Interesting, no?
It's Thursday Poll time! Last week we looked at convertible skirts and decided our favorite was the Tie Dyed Convertible Skirt with 155 votes!
This week I am obsessed with the Draping Frame Tunic! I can't decide what color I'd like to get - maybe two colors! Naturally I'm interested to know what you all will pick as your favorite color! Check them out below.
I am falling in love with the illustrations of Raquel Aparicio right now! Aren't they gorgeous? They look so delicate and pretty - I love the way she draws animals, but I love the soft bleeding edges of her environments even more. I read on The Best Part that she is currently doing work for The New York Times, Wendy's, and Rolling Stone. I can see why!
Thank you all so much for participating in the giveaway! It was so much fun to read about all your favorite clothes! Each piece is so unique - I love how special a piece of clothing can be, and you guys had such great items and great stories to go with them!
My favorite clothes are actually two different tee-shirts that were my dad's, before I swiped them! One is a vintage Eric Clapton world tour 1979 tee, which of course rules! The other is this great old Detroit Tigers tee, which is really beat up but it has the old logo of the tiger's head. I can picture my dad rocking them not so long ago!
SO! On to the winner, chosen at random!
Congratulations to Giuliana! From around 3rd grade to at least 6th, my favorite item of clothing was a pair of navy blue L. L. Bean cargo pants that zipped off into shorts... I wore them all the time. I kind of wish I still had a pair.
I remember that type of short! So fun and convenient!
If you did not win this time around, don't lose hope! We have more giveaways coming up!
Stay tuned!
These interesting pieces by Daniel Newman really caught my eye! It seems like a challenge to see everything that is in the picture. See more of Daniel's work here.
This is just a simple time-lapse video clip - one week of the sun rising and (not) setting during summer in the arctic. It's so interesting and amazing to me- watching the sun going up and down and up and down! Maybe someday I'll get to see the midnight sun for myself!
I couldn't resist posting a few of these pictures from a little editorial in the April Jalouse Magazine! They are stitched representations of various designers by Olympia Le Tan - I wish her website were finished! I also wish these pictures had scanned a little better, because in the magazine they are just so cute!
Want to win the super-cute We The Free tee shown above? We want to give it away!
All you have to do for a chance to win is leave a comment on this post, answering the following question: What is your absolute favorite item of clothing that you own or have owned?
Tomorrow at about this time, we will choose one comment at random, and if your comment is the one picked, you win the shirt!
Make sure to leave your email address with your comment, so that we can contact you if you win!
The shirt is a size small, but these shirts run just a touch big and usually fit a size medium quite well. (In fact, I'm a large and I generally can wear WTF smalls pretty comfortably, though the fit is tighter...)
Good luck everyone! I'm looking forward to reading about your favorite pieces of clothing!
These pretty little garden markers by Monkeysalwayslook make me want to go plant a garden right now! They're made out of vintage silver plated spoons and forks. Check out Monkeysalwayslook's blog here.
I love these images by Kari Herer! How smart to mix flowers with old insect illustrations! It looks so cool! I saw these on Poppytalk, and I loved what one of her commenters said, that it makes bugs almost look romantic! So true! Be sure to check out Kari's blog too!
These photographs of beautiful antique kimonos are from a Flickr set by Neville Trickett of Saint Verde Blog. I love them so much! They put me a little bit in mind of those pieces by Sunny Belliston that I posted the other day. Just wonderful!
I really like these cute little stools from All the Luck in the World, don't you? I especially like the cream colored ones! The crafty hand-embroidery really makes them!
There are so many amazing pictures in this set, called The Now Smash Of Style, by Craig McDean for Italian Vogue. I had trouble narrowing it down to just a few pictures to show you! Dark as they are, these pictures are still just exquisitely beautiful! Check out this post on The Moldy Doily to see the rest of the set - larger sized images too!
Gosh I would love to get my hands on that hat in the first picture, and the corset in the bottom one...
These crazy photoshopped pictures by Katya Ford are really appealing! I especially love the clothes that are replaced by scenes from outer space - boy I would love to have something real like that!
Our May catalog drops tomorrow, and we are so excited! The pieces in it are really fabulous, especially our new Riding Hood Convertible Tee and our Convertible Cape! We are extra excited for these two pieces because they can both be styled in a number of different ways! They're like 4 shirts in one!
We've made a little video to show off the different ways to wear these two items, and how to create the looks! Check it out!
I've been really into wall coverings that are more textured lately, so of course I love these sweet leather panels by Genevieve Bennett. Aren't they pretty? I would feel tempted to rub my hands over it all the time if I got one. More on Genevieve's site.
This video was shot in Tokyo by Samuel Cockedey. From his site: Shot over the span of a year with Canon DSLRs (mostly 350d), processed with Lightroom (raw files color adjustment and resizing)/VirtualDub (deshaker/deflicker filters)/Sony Vegas (editing). Original rendered in 1080p.
Amazing!
These mixed media pieces by Sunny Belliston are so simple and unassuming at first glace, but you get sucked in! The colors, the shapes, something about them is just very pleasing! Do you agree? I would love to have these on the walls of my apartment to look at when I'm sitting... and thinking....

I just had to post this amazing bed by Margaret Elman. It is antique from the 1930's, but she reupholstered it with this pretty dandelion fabric! It's a really interesting look - I like it!
I'm going crazy over the art of Chiara Bautista! Her work is kind of bizarre, and there is just much to look at within each piece - I'm totally mesmerized! Apparently she also goes by the name Milk, which is the name on her Myspace page. Check it out if any of the work above interests you - there's a ton of it on there, and in better quality and sizes. Awesome!
Artists Gilles Cenazandotti and Thierry Lede recently created a new group, Clear Art Planet, whose main mission is to go around the world cleaning up beaches. The awesome pieces above were made with the items they cleaned off of the beach in Cap Corse Corsica. I adore these pieces, they are so beautiful! It's amazing though that those are just the items from a beach in Corsica! Probably not even close to all of them, in fact... It gets me thinking of all the stuff on the beaches of the world...
You can visit Clear Art Planet's site, but be warned it's in French!
Happy Thursday everyone! The week is almost out and it's time for our Thursday poll! Last week we looked at some summer scarves, and the favorite was the Patterned Sunstroke Scarf with 152 votes!
This week I've been browsing our convertible skirts, and wondering which one you all think is the cutest!
Now have a look at our Overdye Rural Route Convertible Skirt, worn here as a dress. (We have also have this style in a non-overdyed version and different colors here.)
I have to have one of these pens! Aren't they awesome?! These Athas! pens are made in the same shape and style of regular Bic pens, except they are made in your choice of steel, gold, silver, or brass. Since they're in the style of the regular Bic pen, you can change the ink really easily! I love them!
This gadget lets cyclists leave a little trail of color everywhere they go! They're calling it a contrail, and it was designed by Studio Gelardi. The original idea, from their site, as phrased by Doobybrain: By using this device, bicyclists will have a clearer path on which to ride safely and out of the way of vehicular traffic. At the same time, as more bicyclists using the Contrail go over a line created by a cyclist before them, the line gets brighter allowing drivers to clearly see a marked bike path where there might be none. It's sort of similar to what happens when a dirt path appears in a grassy field after lots of people have taken the same shortcut over a period of time.
It's a really cool idea- I am hoping people take it up, if only for the pretty colors...
These beautiful drawings are by Hanna Müller, who has a really cute story on her blog about how she started drawing: When I grew up I did some serious attempts to write my feelings in a diary, it started off good until my brother ferret out where it was hidden. It didn't matter how much I tried to hide it, he always found it and spread my most private thoughts to everyone who cared to listen. So I stopped writing my feelings down and started drawing what I felt instead. My pictures became my diary and still are. It feels nice to draw them away. So sweet...
Check out this super cute new video from Company of Thieves! It's a take on some of the scenes from Rushmore which is fun, and the lead-singer Genevieve is wearing a Free People top for a lot of the video too! Enjoy!
I just spent way too long looking at every painting on Josh Keyes' site, and after I post this I'll probably go back to look some more! I can't put my finger on what I like so much about his work, but I really really do! His acrylic paintings are strangely beautiful, and I love the subject matter and message. If you check out his paintings, try starting at the bottom! His older work is at the bottom and it's cool to see the work develop.
Elsie Marley made these delicious looking carrot cake cookies using this recipe, which I am really excited to try! Apparently when Elsie made these cookies they got eaten right up, and no surprise - just looking at them is making my mouth water...
These slings are such a good idea! They're not just funny, but useful for when you get to the point that you are tired of telling the story of your broken bone over and over and over...
I'm loving this amazing work by London-based artist Kate MccGwire! To create these pieces she used thousands of discarded pigeon feathers, and they seem to create so much movement! I especially love how they look flowing out of pipes! See more of Kate's work here.
Aaron at Color Schemer has created an awesome list of all the Crayola Crayon colors, with hex codes. For me the fun is reading all the different names! ColourLovers has the whole list right here, as well as a bunch of pictures like those shown above, and some random crayon facts. Fun!
You may remember a while back when we talked about all the cool sequined and embellished tights that hit the runway during fashion week... Well, Park & Cube has a really handy tutorial showing how she embellished the fabulous tights shown above! It has awesome pictures and some handy tips for those of us who feel the urge to DIY some cool tights for ourselves! Check it out here.
This interesting building is, rather fittingly, the offices of Spanish Selgas Cano Architecture. Naturally, they designed it themselves. I'm not sure how I feel about it. I kind of like it, I like that you can see the scenery around it anyway, but it seems maybe small and narrow... What do you think?
Either way, an interesting concept!
These spools of ribbon from Felt at Home are so awesome! It's such a beautiful way to send someone a message! You can get ribbons with poetry printed on them, or get your own things printed on them, like invitations or birth announcements! Imagine the love notes one could get! The wooden spools are vintage, and so are the buttons. No wonder they look so pretty! You can get yours at Felt at Home's shop.
These photographs by Elena Kalis are so beautiful! The dress looks so delicate and light in the water! The colors are gorgeous too. Be sure to check out Elena's website - her other work is equally dreamy.
Recently, one of our Facebook friends wrote in and asked if we had some photos of the Free People line from back in the 1980's! Luckily for her, and for all of us, our Assistant Art Director Carrie was kind enough to put together this little video! It features items from the very beginning, when Urban Outfitters was just starting back in the 70's and had one little shop in West Philadelphia, called The Free People's Store. Then it moves on through the 1980's to our inception as a separate brand, and evolves on to now! It's really fun to see our development over time and look at all the vintage Free People styles! Enjoy!
Kevin and Danielle both happened to come into work today rocking pairs of pink jeans! Of course now I want a pair - they look so awesome! Kevin and Danielle make a cute pair of twins too!
I can't stop admiring these rather surreal pieces by Tyson Skross. After moving to rural Switzerland from Texas at the age of nine, he became intrigued with the odd natural phenomena that he often witnessed. This sort of altered reality and intangibility is what he tries to bring to his work. So strangely beautiful! See more here and here.
My friend Scott in Production came across these crazy interior products called Phat Knits. They're really interesting to look at! I only wish I could see one of these pieces in real life! The bottom one especially looks like it might be a good place to sleep...
