Announcing: Free People's Fashion Illustration Contest!

I am totally pumped to announce our second Free People Fashion Illustration Contest!
Create an original fashion illustration that includes at least one of the following three items:
the One-Shoulder Banded Bottom Dress, Lace Tulip Mini Skirt or Jacquard Princess Cami.
(See pictures of these items at the bottom of this post and on our site.)
Entries will be judged based on creativity, originality, artistic rendering, and appropriateness to the Free People aesthetic.
The winner will receive a goody-box filled with all kinds of awesome surprises from all of us at Free People, valued at $100!
A Few Guidelines
-Your illustration must be your own original design.
-Illustrations may be created with any two-dimensional medium.
Examples of two-dimensional mediums include crayons, markers, paints, pen and ink, computer imaging, chalks, pastels, colored pencils - basically anything that is on paper or computer.
-Illustrations should be no larger than 11x17 inches, or no larger than 6336x9792 pixels.
-Illustrations must include at least one of the following items:
One-Shoulder Banded Bottom Dress,
Lace Tulip Mini Skirt
or
Jacquard Princess Cami.
You do not have to use all three items. For the items that come in multiple colors, you may use any color you like in your illustration. You may also include any other Free People items that you like.
-You may enter more than one illustration, but if you choose to do so, each illustration must be entered on its own, as a separate entry.
This means if you are using snail mail to turn in your entries, they can all be mailed in one envelope, but each illustration needs to have your name and information attached to it.
If you are emailing your entries, each entry needs to be in a separate email.
-You must be at least 13 years old and a resident of the United States of America to enter.
To Enter:
Email us your entry at freepeoplecontest@gmail.com.
Mail us your entry at:

May I use a band logo? such as The Who?

Must we use the exact designs of the three items or can we alter them but still have the same idea as the designs posted?

no Canadian applicants?

Hey everyone!
We're so happy you are excited about the contest!
Kristina - I'm afraid that illustrations cannot contain the name or logo of any retailer, manufacturer, brand, product, person, company or character, etc... So no The Who logo - though they rock! I'm sorry, it's legal stuff, so it can't be done! I'm sure your illustration will still be cool!
Emily - I would say that you can alter the designs in as much as you need to to make them suit your artistic style, but keep them true to the design enough that we can tell what they are!
Jaranian - I'm afraid that we cannot accept any entries from people outside of the USA at this time - this is another one you can blame on legal technicalities! Stay tuned though - we currently have giveaways periodically and we ship those prizes anywhere!
Thanks for your questions guys!
Please feel free to ask any others you might have!

Besides the required pieces, would the other clothing items and accessories in the illustration have to be from Free People, or can we make those ones up?
Posted by Eva on June 17, 2009 3:23 PM
Hey Eva!
You can make them up if you want!
Also, don't forget you only need to use one of the three Free People items.
Other than that, you can use anything, as long as it doesn't have a logo on it. You can use other Free People items if you want, or other brands. It's really pretty limitless, except for the inclusion of at least one of the three items.
I hope that helps! Let me know if you have any other questions!
