we have some new artwork up in gallery 543 here at the navy yard! now through march the gallery will feature the work of three local artists: nicole barrick, jason turner and caroline wilson.
caroline wilson works with pen, ink, gouache and found objects, toying with the juxtaposition of various themes and images. She says she began illustrating as a means to sanity, and a way to exorcize the imagery that haunts her at night.
nicole barrick uses a variety of media, including hair weaving and clothing. she says, “i strive to make connections between seemingly unrelated objects and images in order to make sense of this world and at the same time create imaginary places. the best way to describe my process is as a meditation on or channeling of an enigmatic energy that brings forth images and symbols filtered through my own perception and experience.”
jason turner works with themes of nature, vulnerability and cultural myth, using simple line and repetition to construct a world of calm and subtle narrative.
The artists reception will take place at gallery 543 tomorrow, February 1st, from 5-6:30pm.
