another new feature on the blog!

“fp loves” will take a look at an item we’re really excited about and get word from the buyer on why they love it so much!  first up: the beryll vintage artisan asphalt boots… hand-distressed from restored leather sourced from the 60’s and 70s.

 fp loves...

and, it turns out vogue italia loves the beryll boots too! they were featured in the cover story, shot by steven miesel, for the january 2010 issue!

the beryll boots are available on our website, here.

I can’t believe how horrific that model looks…. it’s hard to imagine talking about her stylish boots in the post and missing the point that she looks like death walking. It is the saddest statement on where a women’s body image has been shoved to. In a corner with nowhere to go.

    Wow those models look sick!!

I agree!!! WOW. I can not believe that she is still alive. Horrible.

creativeweekend punch2 wednes diy

one of the girls here at the office told me about this awesome DIY project that she’s going to try, and i think i might have to try it as well! it is so simple and there are so many fun things you can do with it…

what you need:

 wednes diy

1. some pretty paper – this would be a great way to reuse your old free people catalogs!

2. punches in whatever shape or size you want – i love the idea of using varying sizes.

3. some zots (clear adhesive dots) and 3d-dots (sticky foam cubes) to add some dimension by placing the butterflies at varying heights, like this:

4. a picture frame with 3d mat board

once you have your paper picked out, start punching! lay out the shapes on a piece of paper as you punch, in whatever pattern you feel like.  then you’re just going to attach them using the zots and 3d dots, placing the shapes at varying heights.

lollychops has a really great step-by-step tutorial if you need more direction:

she also suggests adding an inspirational quote or word – what a great idea!

I too reuse FP and Anthropologie catalogue for art projects. Also I am tickled pink with the butterflies. I am in the process of redecorating my daughters room and I have also used butterflies as part of the theme. In addition to the butterflies, birds and birdcages will also be used. I can’t wait to share the end products with FP facebook someday when I finish. I could only do a little bit at a time. You cannot hurry art, it just has to evolve. Wow I think this is why everything I do takes so long to finish !

today’s tunesday album is the new one from beach house, called teen dream!

i first heard of the duo when i saw grizzly bear in concert and victoria legrand of beach house was there to sing the backup vocals on “two weeks.” she has a beautiful voice that has drawn comparisons to nico and stevie nicks, and i can definitely see the similarities- especially on songs like “zebra” which sounds like it could be from the 70s. beach house’s music is often described as “dream pop”, their album is called “teen dream,” and it was recorded in a church in upstate new york called dreamland…so it’s hard not to use dreamy when describing their music- but it is just that. it feels like the type of music that would be playing in the background in your dreams, or walking through a field of flowers, or, appropriately enough, taking a stroll on the beach.

now take a listen to some tunes from the new album!
