a tour of our new home

as you may know, our home offices are located in philadelphia’s navy yard, an old navy ship yard that is home to some really cool, old warehouse buildings that urban outfitters renovated to house our offices. building 15 has been our home for the last few years but next month we will be moving to the neighboring building 25, which is bigger – and has two floors as opposed to one!

on friday we were treated to a special tour of the new building (it is still under construction) and i snapped some photos to share with you all! i think we are all very excited for the move, especially after seeing the amazing new space- and the fact that it is right on the water makes me very happy :)

read on for more photos of our new home and to see the special treat waiting for us at the end…

Wow, what an amazing office! I applied for a few photography/design related jobs at the urbn home office and I must say i’m a little jealous of the current employees! :) such a beautiful space – and I love the big windows, great for photos. Nice space, you guys!

one of our stylists saw this fun DIY idea on bleach black and sent it along – i can’t wait to try it! all you need are some sharpies and an old blank tshirt or sweatshirt. then just look up some of your favorite band logos and draw them right onto the sweatshirt!

valerie of bleach black googled the logos for her favorite bands and sketched them onto her sweatshirt right in front of her computer. for some of the more difficult ones she printed them out to better replicate at full size. use a fine point sharpie for outlines and shading and a king size for filling in large areas!

i would love to try some of these logos…

sasquatch is this weekend! the festival takes place outside seattle in a scenic gorge that looks stunningly beautiful, and this year’s lineup is stellar. here’s a look at some of the bands playing this weekend…

sasquatch1 sasquatch this weekend!
sasquatch2 sasquatch this weekend!
sasquatch3 sasquatch this weekend!

that is quite a lineup… and i just realized the local natives somehow got left out of the image for day 2, but they will be there as well.

are any of you going to sasquatch? who are you looking forward to seeing?

here’s a playlist of songs by the artists playing at sasquatch this year!

tunesday: band of horses

boh tunesday: band of horses

i’ve been a big fan of band of horses ever since a friend told me about their debut album, everything all the time, back in ‘06 and i loved it. the album’s first single, “the funeral,” completely blew me away – it definitely didn’t sound like a band’s first single, more like something that gets written much later in their career. i loved their second album too, cease to begin, so naturally i was really stoked to check out their latest, infinite arms. their music has a really soothing quality and a sort of country tinge to it, despite what their seattle roots might suggest. i still think their first album is my favorite but as long as they keep making albums i can sing along to and listen to all the way through without skipping a song, i’m happy.

they’ve been opening up for pearl jam on their current tour, and they’ll be stopping by amoeba records in san francisco this weekend for an in-store performance before heading up to their home turf to play sasquatch on monday.

pearl jam invited singer ben bridwell out on stage to help sing “hunger strike” at madison square garden last week and i almost can’t even watch this video because i would kill to see this song live…check it out:

aaand now listen to some of my fave band of horses songs, as well as their newest song “laredo”!

Great song! I also love Band of Horses (and 90s alternative!!). Ben Bridwell was also a member of Carissa’s Wierd, another amazing but somewhat quieter band from Seattle. Unfortunately they are no longer making music :(

summer getaways – going up the country

Meadow is a girl who loves old world charm, she’s cultured and interested in the fairytale of life –  reading folklore makes her imagination run wild into a world of illusion and utopia.

Her nomadic way of thinking is projected in the way she dresses. Her wardrobe is a cluster of treasures from around the world. Each item tells a story.

Her ideal destination would be the English Country – Cornwall to be exact.

A historic Farm is where she would stay within wild flower meadows that are grazed by cattle and sheep. The place is Botelet, a few miles west of Liskeard in Cornwall. Patchwork of ancient fields and a wet woodland, capped by the Neolithic Hill Fort of Bury Down rural setting. It’s the type of place you can only imagine existing in Enid Blyton books.

She would travel solo with a heavy rucksack of books and sketch pads. She would wander the fields in the day, tell her tales to the wildlife and nestle down by the streaming rivers.

She would stay in the mirrored 70’s showman’s caravan (pictured above) which is positioned in the orchard amongst campions and bluebells with great views over rolling fields to the distant sea.

Items left to right:

Tiny Dancer Skirt, Eyelet Boot, Caravan Flared Skirt, Knotted Ditsy Floral Headband, Sleeveless Printed Cinch Waist Tunic, In Harmony Necklace, Mini Kurta, Oversized Slouchy Straw Bag, Beyond Vintage Long Sleeve Dashiki Shirt, Cleo Lace Up Sandal.

summer getaways – the beach

May 24th, 2010 / Posted by fp julia / Permalink

sandy1 summer getaways the beach

she loves the sand between her toes and salt water in her hair, and the sun brings a sparkle to her eye.  her style is easy and effortless- soft materials, solid colors and silhouettes that can be sexy when dressed up.  the most important thing is comfort because she never knows what the day will hold- it could end cuddled up in blankets by a beach bonfire or with a night on the town so versatility is key.  she’s all about the layers upon layers in the winter but she lives for spring, summer and splashing in the surf.

when thinking about sandy the lyrics to the beatles song “julia” always come to mind.

sandy’s summer getaway is the beach, whether that be a tropical destination like vieques in puerto rico or the california coast.  she always packs light- easy pieces that can be worn as beach cover-ups during the day and then dressed up if she goes out at night, and a warm sweater or jacket is a must for evenings when the breeze chills her sun burnt skin.  in her beach bag are definitely a few items from – what else? – our beach line; sunglasses and a big brimmed hat to shade her eyes, sandals and some accessories to throw on at night time.
