so i saw these friendship necklaces on honestly…wtf last week and i’ve been thinking about them ever since.  they definitely bring back memories of grade school – although i actually still wear friendship bracelets that i made back in those days. what excited me about this was the idea of making lots of extra long necklaces to layer… and then i got to thinking… what if i tried it in my hair?

all you need to do this is some string – and if you want to make necklaces like the ones above, rope or hemp cord. if you don’t know how to make these, it’s incredibly simple and you can find an excellent tutorial right here.

during my lunch break i drove over to a.c. moore to pick up some string – so many colors to choose from!

i got some hemp cord too for when i make the necklaces.

these are the colors i’m going with for the hair wrap.

i took a small section of hair, wet it and twisted it up, and then just knotted the three strings around it – warning- it might not be easy to take out :)

now use your hair as if its the rope in the tutorial, and start wrapping! use one color at a time, holding the others in with the section of hair until you want to change them up.

another cool idea- wear the necklaces as belts:

be kind to animals and birds, and read all you can

I love that there are very few things that books cannot do. They can pluck you from under the covers and drop you into the outskirts of your imagination. They can rearrange the chemicals in your brain until you feel happy and uplifted, or wistful and nostalgic. They can with the careful placement of words side by side remind you of places you have seen in the dreams of your childhood that you thought you had long forgotten.

I would love to make one of these books my own. I feel like their beautiful exterior would inspire me in my quest to make the inside equally as magical.

a few of our fp girls will be there this weekend so hopefully i’ll have some pics for you next week!

tunesday: grace potter & the nocturnals

i mentioned grace potter & the nocturnals the other week because they were one of the acts performing at the XPN music festival – but today i wanted to dedicate a whole post to them.  i think grace potter is one of those musicians that you need to see live to really appreciate. she can really rock.  i think she’s probably the only female musician around right now who could do justice to jefferson airplane’s “white rabbit.” check it out:

quirky bouquet

quirky but incredibly cute! an fp girl who works in one of our stores sent me the following…

“on friday i got promoted from the part-time MIT to full-time MIT and one of the associates said congrats with the cutest little present – an old glass jar filled with pink flowers & broccoli! … so strange but so fitting, i love flowers, and broccoli is my favorite food ever.  i thought i’d share these pictures with you because i’ve never seen anyone arrange something like this before, and it made me smile!”

i’ve never seen anything like that either! so original and sweet. thanks for sharing :)
