winter hot and cold

rozemaryblogspot hot and cold

on the trek to building 25, sunlight filters down from the sky and presses summer gently on the shoulders. walk through the double doors and you enter a different season entirely. while i was sitting in on a meeting yesterday, i found myself casting wistful glances at the cardigan/sweater/jacket/blanket clad shoulders around me, all the while struggling to banish the impulse to hurl myself at a sweater sample and disappear inside of it. it seems that spending the day in such a boldly air conditioned building has tricked me into thinking that it is winter.

everywhere i look i see plush cardigans and deliciously cozy knits. the we the free navajo cardigan that i have had my eye on since it first appeared on the web has done more than turn me onto the navajo-inspired trend. i now find myself feverishly looking up sweaters and moccasins, dreaming of the warmth and comfort they would bring. from what i have seen of what’s to come, i think free people reads my mind.

i decided to take a walk around the office to see how FP girls keep warm…

 hey rodge!

this fuzzy muffin is roger, who’s adorable face was here to greet me when i walked in this morning. roger rarely graces us with his presence so i wanted to ask him some questions while i had the chance!

what kind of dog are you?

i’m a chow/corgi mix, but i’m unnaturally handsome.

where do you live?

wayne, PA. i live with my mom’s ex boyfriend.

has that been difficult for you?

no it’s ok, i stay with my mom sometimes and she visits me frequently.

what are some of your favorite things?

tummy rubs are my favorite, and i like the dog park, the ocean, and just straight chillin’.

what do you do during the day?

i sleep a lot. it’s hot out so i like sitting at home in the air conditioning right now. but i have a lady friend who takes me to the park.

what is your favorite food?

cheese.  i will work for cheese.

what are your least favorite things?

i don’t like strangers, especially when they come in my house. and i don’t like my neighbors.

what’s your favorite color?

i’m really into camouflage right now.

what do you think of our new building?

i love it! i feel right at home here.

He is sooo cute! I have a Chow/Rottweiler mix and am amazed at how their coats are so similar in texture, color, and marking. Must be the chow!

you all know by now that we’ve moved into a new building, and it’s very cool because our photo studio is now just right upstairs (as opposed to in a different building).  today i went up and hung out for a little while to get some shots of the new space and our team at work.

wrap6 wednes diy

so i saw these friendship necklaces on honestly…wtf last week and i’ve been thinking about them ever since.  they definitely bring back memories of grade school – although i actually still wear friendship bracelets that i made back in those days. what excited me about this was the idea of making lots of extra long necklaces to layer… and then i got to thinking… what if i tried it in my hair?

all you need to do this is some string – and if you want to make necklaces like the ones above, rope or hemp cord. if you don’t know how to make these, it’s incredibly simple and you can find an excellent tutorial right here.

 wednes diy

during my lunch break i drove over to a.c. moore to pick up some string – so many colors to choose from!

 wednes diy

i got some hemp cord too for when i make the necklaces.

these are the colors i’m going with for the hair wrap.

i took a small section of hair, wet it and twisted it up, and then just knotted the three strings around it – warning- it might not be easy to take out :)

now use your hair as if its the rope in the tutorial, and start wrapping! use one color at a time, holding the others in with the section of hair until you want to change them up.

another cool idea- wear the necklaces as belts:

I did this to my hair this last summer (2011) because i was really bored and it looked so pretty in some pic i had seen…it looked awesome (to me) but no one else really noticed it..maybe next time i’ll put it on the top layer instead of underneath because no one could really see it..when my mom seen it, she did think it looked really cute…I also braided the strip of hair before I wrapped it, it made it alot easier to work with :)

  • Kayla says:

it might be easier to take out the string if you braid the section before wrapping it

I love these. i can’t wait to try them with my daughters. Something fun to try.

be kind to animals and birds, and read all you can

COLLAGE BOOKS be kind to animals and birds, and read all you can

I love that there are very few things that books cannot do. They can pluck you from under the covers and drop you into the outskirts of your imagination. They can rearrange the chemicals in your brain until you feel happy and uplifted, or wistful and nostalgic. They can with the careful placement of words side by side remind you of places you have seen in the dreams of your childhood that you thought you had long forgotten.

I would love to make one of these books my own. I feel like their beautiful exterior would inspire me in my quest to make the inside equally as magical.
