this week’s pick from our stylists is the eternal sunshine shirt! our assistant stylist says “transitioning into fall i love the idea of wearing woven button downs as layering pieces. it’s great for adding pattern and texture to your outfit.”
in addition to the amazing interior of our new building, we have a pretty awesome outdoor area too. in between our building and 543, where our cafeteria is located, we have a dry dock – check it out:
next to one of the urban buildings there is a row of lavender bushes. now that we’ve moved i pass them on the way to and from our new building and each time, i breathe in their wonderful scent. scent is one of the most powerful triggers of memory for me and every time i smell lavender i am taken back to the south of france where i was fortunate enough to spend some time during my childhood.
the heat of the sun bearing down on my shoulders, the dust from dirt roads kicking up around my bare feet, and fields of the brightest purple lavender as far as the eye can see.
take me back.
speaking of lavender…have you ever had lavender lemonade? it’s delicious.
to make it from scratch you just need water, lemons and sugar. bring to a simmer in a saucepan and throw in five or six fresh pieces of lavender. if you’re using dried lavender, put it in a tea ball. let sit for a bit and then cool, and add a sprig of lavender for garnish.
for more specific instructions check out this recipe. (last 2 images from there as well).
Ever since I was little I’ve always had a love for trees. I don’t know what it is; the fact that they have the ability to change with every season? Or maybe it’s the fact that they’re able to create a home for so many different types of creatures. The layers of bark are intriguing as well- layer after layer after layer- and it never stops. However, the roots and the branches are what amaze me the most. Each one entangled in the other, some thick and some thin. They provide us with shade, they provide us with apples and peaches and plums. Sadly, they provide us with paper when they are cut down. And every day they change and every day we change. We hear them whispering to us in the wind, good morning and good night.
i LOVE these. i saw this image on design for mankind last week and i’ve been a little obsessed with the idea every since. i want to go find a bunch of sticks and paint them and display them around my apartment. it looks easy enough to do, right??
“Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn’t do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines, sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.” – Mark Twain
One of my biggest fears is regret, and I know that if I do not see the world (or as much of it as I can), I will not be satisfied with my life.
I have always been curious; about other cultures, other music, other food, other fashion trends…about everything! Everyday I am anxious to experience new things in new places. I am lucky to have been to Italy with my family several times, along with Greece and Turkey. I have family in various states that have allowed me to go across the country. But I won’t stop now. I plan to see places that some people only dream of. The world is a beautiful creation and I won’t take it for granted while I am here. I am scared of being in unfamiliar place, but that’s the fun of it. Testing your own limits.
Working down at the Navy Yard, with the planes constantly passing over, has made me even more eager to visit a new place.
