Happy Friday
Friday evenings are the best, you can let your hair down after a working week. Sleep until you want to wake up and not when the alarm tells you too.
I usually wake up on Saturdays cook breakfast and listen to music in a carefree mood, and relax.
I heart Fridays!
Is anyone doing anything fun?
thursday poll – edition 105
have you seen our new outfits for august yet?!? i always get so excited when we have new outfits because our team does such an amazing job putting them together. the layering in these outfits is so perfect. which is your favorite?
i think this is the first time i’ve actually been stumped! i love them all. now vote!
click on the images to see the items in each outfit. the winner of last week’s desert gypsy poll was the traded treasure bib necklace with 33%.
almost famous
one of our newest items is this fuzzy faux fur jacket that we’ve dubbed the almost famous fur jacket. inevitably, images and snippets of the movie of that name come to mind. there was a period of time when i was in college when i would watch this movie with my roommate to the point where we had it memorized and wanted to get a pet turtle and name it russell. i always felt like i was really meant to be a band-aid, traveling the states in a tour bus with a grungy long-haired band… living for music, love and nothing else.
here are some images, some from the movie and some from elsewhere, that make this feeling come rushing back.

office space
back in the section of our new building where our visual display team sits, there is a door that is usually partially open, but i’ve never gone in. that is, until the other day… when i slipped in and realized it was their new workspace. this is where you’re likely to find upcoming store displays that they are working on as well as furniture, fabric and boxes of trinkets that i could dig through for ours. what i would give to be able to decorate my apartment using this stuff…
tie dye is my bag
how cool are these tie dye bags? we are using these as packaging for the vintage loves collection and i think they are so beautiful – plus they were made with love by some of our fp girls right here at the home office.
the ingredients:
dye in shades of fuchsia, orange, yellow, purple, turquoise and green!
bags of various sizes and lots of rubber bands!
various tying techniques…
time to dye!
they let the bags sit overnight so the dye sets in.
next step – rinsing!
hang me out to dry…
and… ta da!
i love it! i have a plain white free people bag that i think needs to be tie dye :)
Celebrity Style
Yesterday I saw this sweet picture of Kate Bosworth looking rather adorable. She has always been a celebrity I have turned to for style inspiration. Her look has the good balance of boy meets girl. Her style is simple but done so well.
So after staring at this picture nearly all afternoon yesterday, I was determined to grab her look for a transition going into Fall.
Here are some other outfits that I loved from the past. Double layering simple slips, oversized men’s shirts and Long Cardigans and hiking boot. A style that is spot on I say!
wednes-diy: mason jar chandelier
some DIY inspiration from wanderlust- a jar lantern chandelier! so beautiful. i did some hunting online and found some similar ideas that are so lovely…
i really love the idea of putting some sand in the bottom and dropping in a tea candle. i think that would be the perfect outdoor lighting at my family’s beach house.

Many of my school friends get a kick out of the fact that I’ve been a gardener for the past 3 summers. Since many of them have never ventured into my neck of the woods, they think it is so typical that a Maine girl like myself returns home after every school year to work on the farm. I can see how picturing me covered in dirt and performing manual labor (with bugs!) in the hot summer sun can be quite entertaining to them, but the truth is I can’t get enough of it.
Over the years I have developed a passion for gardening from my appreciation of nature, which is can be hard (if not impossible) for anyone to truly relate to who hasn’t had the pleasure of watching a garden grow. Needless to say, being in Philly has deprived me of this hobby of mine and made me realize how much I miss the (real) great outdoors. This is why I have decided to dedicate a post to all garden inspired items that I gravitate towards because of nostalgia.
I discovered these Fairy Houses in a Down East magazine article, and I could not get over how odd but precious these miniature works of art were. I can’t help but envision these as doll houses for free people girl when she was young.

Underwater Gardens… I know people say fish don’t have feelings, but if I had to be trapped in a tank swimming in circles my entire life, I would want to be in this fish tank .
notice anything different?
check out our new blog header! with the move to the new building, we felt it was time for a change… plus, we are now in building 25, so our name is now the bldg 25 blog!
for the new header we wanted to use more photos, so i gathered a bunch from our personal files – these images are from various catalog and special shoots. we hung them on the wall behind our desks and picked the ones we loved most, and our awesome graphic designer put together this header.
and when i came in this morning, it was up! you’ll notice on the main free people website, our button has changed as well:
i think the new header looks lovely, hope you guys like it too :)
sing joyfully, even if it’s off-key
the other day another fp girl told me about the LA Ladies Choir, her current obsession. i had never heard of them before but i was immediately intrigued. they are a group of 30 women with careers ranging from music, fashion, art, literature and theater, and they sing covers of old folk songs and wear beautiful vintage dresses. how can you not love that? founding member becky stark (front woman of groups kavender diamond and the trio the living sisters) says the one rule of the choir is to sing joyfully, and she doesn’t care if you sing off-key. the ladies perform at venues around L.A., sometimes joined by flea of the red hot chili peppers, whose wife, model frankie raydar, is a member of the group (and her sister missy modeled in our march catalog!).
check out this video of them performing john lennon’s “happy xmas (war is over)” at space 15 twenty:
