austin day three…last day :(

for my last day in austin i decided to go off on my own and explore the city while i had the chance. my first stop was south congress street, a hip area known as soco.  i was told beforehand that this was THE place for vintage shopping and getting a good taste of what austin is all about.

there were several amazing stores in soco, but this one was by far my favorite – i literally could have spent the entire day there. it’s called uncommon objects and is basically a massive assortment of rare vintage objects including postcards, found familiy portraits,  boots, mexican blankets, home furnishings, skulls and an array of bizarre items.

after shopping i stopped for lunch at jo’s cafe, right by the hotel san jose.  it’s got great outdoor patio seating perfect for people watching!

next i walked back towards downtown austin, with a view of the impressive texas state capital guiding my way.

beautiful lady bird lake.

the oldest hotel in austin, the driskill, is rumored to be haunted.

next i headed down 6th street, also known as old pecan st, which is lined with bars and is the central location for SXSW-goers.

i headed west on sixth street towards lamar, where one of our free people stores is located! the girls were super sweet, as always, and very excited that we were in town shooting!

by this point i was pretty tired and sun-burnt so i headed back towards our house, and passed this amazing place on my way…

almost every house i saw in austin had a porch.  one day i will have a house with a porch.

full moon!

our team returned from their day of shooting and we headed out to dinner, where we drank texas mules (tito’s, ginger beer and lime) and i had one of the best veggie burgers EVER. then it was off to bed to get some sleep before my early morning flight.

austin, i miss you already.

p.s. i am putting together a whole guide of our favorite spots in austin so stay tuned for that when the catalog drops in july! xoxo

my tiny hometown is about 45 min outside of Austin, and I grew up coming here for just about everything. I miss the music and the vintage soooo much! And its funny that you mentioned everyone has a porch, I guess I never really noticed that before…haha us Texans sure do love our front porches :)

I heart Austin. Do tell…where do you get a Texas Mule? We’re on our way there this weekend and it’s one drink we haven’t tried. Viva La Austin!

Born and raised in Austin and I still live here, thanks for coming to Austin FP!! I’m glad you enjoyed your visit Julia!!

It never occured to me that other places don’t have houses with front porches, pretty funny.
