Saturday DO

DO: Start a mood board

A couple of weeks ago I moved into a new apartment. Although I’m still not fully settled, it’s great to start fresh with a new space. My goal is to turn the place into an all inspiring place to be. I want to sit down with my sketchbook or paint brush, sewing machine – whatever – and have feel like I’m in a creative environment. I want everywhere I look to spark me with new ideas, or just be a plain pleasure for the eye to see.

So I’ve begun to fill the space above where my desk is going to go (haven’t actually gotten the desk yet) with a mood board. Not only are mood boards absolutely beautiful and inspiring, but I think they’re a great way to bring your own vision and personality together. Collecting items along your life path, choosing photos and objects that strike an emotional chord, and bringing them all together in one place is captivating.

I often save images on the computer, but these files are not tangible. To look at them I have to search through my computer. A mood board on the other hand, is there every day – physical beauty that you’ve picked out yourself, put together, and you can’t help but look at.

Start a mood board today. If you already have one – start a new one! Collect your memories, bring a vision together, or just put up images that capture you. Who couldn’t use a constant presence of inspiration and beauty in their lives?

I love mood boards~ I had one in my room that I would change every few months, and now, since I am moving, I had to take it down. I will be starting over soon! Now I will have a new and bigger space for one! I can’t wait to get started! I already have pictures from FP catalogs and mag cut outs!

That’s so funny that this is your Saturday do! I was just in the process of making one when I took a break to check up on the Free People Blog for extra inspiration!

this is so awesome!! I just bought a magazine with a celebritys apt makeover and they took an ENTIRE wall, covered it in cork and then kind of a burlap/fabric type of covering and now her whole wall is an inspiration board!! I sooo wanna do it! :)

Moodboards always have a place in my sketchbooks. For me, it’s so much easier to start a creative process from inspiring, beautiful images.
