Here’s the second batch of behind the scenes photos from the 1970s portion of our holiday catalog shoot in Morocco… from a scorching desert landscape to a serene oasis.

Office Style: Sheer Madness

Sheer layers have been making a fashion statement around the home offices as a must-have trend. Whether worn underneath or on top, these pieces are good ways of inciting mystery. The eye gets a peek into what’s underneath, maybe a fun bandeau print or lacey detail, but never fully gets a good look. Checkout the many garments and ways in which we’re sporting the trend…

I’m always trying to come up with ways to wear my cropped sweaters (like this one or this one) in cooler weather – love the idea of layering a sheer top (like this one) underneath.

Store Style: Snow Angel

The latest trend we can’t get enough of is Snow Angel. With a new chilliness to the air and less hours of sunshine in the day, we’re brightening our spirits with shades of pink, ivory and icy blue and cozy, comfy textures that warm our souls. Winter doesn’t have to be about black, gray and deep tones, it can be as light and airy as the snow outside :)  This trend makes me think of sledding all day, rosy cheeks, icicles and candy canes!

Here are some of our beautiful store girls rocking the snow angel trend.

A dreamy shot… wearing the scallop strapless dress with a sweater and adorable faux fur arm warmers.

We adore the new romantics embellished romper! Worn here with the cropped cardigan and a beanie.

The embellished romper also looks awesome with the anita faux fur jacket!

Trend: Snow Angel

When I think of a snow angel I think of a soft wanderer, she walks quietly and oozes curiosity.
Our Snow Angel trend derived from all things soft and pretty, beautiful cozy textures hang softly
while pastels shades capture the nostalgic feeling of a dream like world. Snow Angel is about comfort,
comfort in the most beautiful light.

Catalog Behind the Scenes: Morocco in the 1970s

There’s something surreal about these behind the scenes photos from our holiday catalog shoot in Morocco.  The lighting, the colors, the vast open landscape, it almost seems like a different planet… where our team became desert warriors on a mission to shoot a beautiful catalog.

Braving the Elements

Sometimes, as winter blankets our surroundings with its bitter chill, it’s tough to stay fashionably motivated. Rising out of bed in the morning involves a laborious upheaval from an all-too-comfortable toasty nest. The last thing you want to do is spend time, half-naked in a drafty bedroom, pulling an outfit together. It tends to turn into, “grab the first items in your drawer, and pile them on as fast as you can.”

To dress well as the air gets chillier though, we’ve come to realize that the under layer becomes less important. To pull off a great look that won’t leave you freezing, it’s all about that top winter layer. Here, some of the Free People girls show us how to move into the new season while keeping it fresh with a few of our favorite jackets. They remind us that a good scarf and hat can go a long way to trap in heat, and, don’t forget, the season’s must-have item – a pair of killer close-toed boots. All of these things – jacket, boots, and winter accessories – will help you bring those easy under layers into the new season.

So chill and relaxed! Our sweater designer is wearing: The Vintage Wine Leather Jacket, Pink Floyd Tee, Joan of Arctic Boot, Loop Knit Beanie, Crystal Honeycomb Bib necklace, and her own pants.

DIY Holiday Ornaments turned Accessories

Have you guys seen our beautiful collection of holiday ornaments? We have chosen some of our favorite jewelry designers to collaborate with, interpreting their aesthetic and materials into ornaments that can be hung on a tree! The ornaments are lovely, and the best part is – all of them can be turned into accessories that you can wear and enjoy all year round :) Our team helped put together some awesome tutorials on how to do this – first, we’ll show you how to turn the ornaments into earrings or necklaces!

DIY ornaments turned into earrings

What you need:

A pair of pliers and two earring hooks – you can find these online at places like amazon or at your local craft store.

We used the Zodiac Coin Ornament – I love that these have little fortunes on the back :)

diy-earring

Using your pliers, remove the large hook that comes on the ornament.

diy-earring

Replace the large hooks with the earring hooks, using the pliers to pinch them shut.

diy-earring

You now have a new pair of earrings :) It would be really cute to mix your own zodiac sign on one ear and a loved one or best friend’s sign on the other!

DIY ornaments turned into necklaces

diy-necklace

This one is really simple – all you need is a chain of your choosing, and, depending on which ornament you use, you might need the pliers.

We used the Crystal Claw Ornament:

diy-necklace4

Remove the ribbon the ornament comes with.

diy-necklace

And add the chain! Easy peasy.

These ornaments would make great earrings OR necklaces:
