DO: Embrace your “youness”
Some people seem to have it down pat. They are who they are with no inhibitions. Others don’t come by it as easily. I surely used to be more of the latter type when it came to letting myself just be. I held back and as a result, at times felt like there were few or no people who could understand me. After going through life-changing stages – living in a foreign country, heading off to college, entering the real world – one of the most important things I’ve learned is to not hold back. One of the best way to make friends is to let your colors show – insecurities and all. It gives people something to connect with you over, and something to like about you. It’s not so bad to stick out for being different. A lot of the time, that’s what people like about you. Who likes their best friend because they’re exactly like everybody else? Nobody. You like your best friend because of the stupid jokes they tell you when you’re sad, or the funny way they laugh everytime they’re embarrassed. Defining characteristics and mannerisms are what make you you. Embrace it. Embrace your youness, and travel through this world more comfortable and confident.
