Back in August, I was at Outside Lands in San Francisco handing out Free People bags and fliers in Golden Gate Park when I heard the mesmerizing sound of Phantogram‘s music creeping up on me from a nearby stage. My ears perked up and didn’t stop listening until the band left the stage. Phantogram is an electronic rock duo made up of Sarah Barthel (vocals, keyboards) and Josh Carter (vocals, guitar). The keys and guitar provide a steady, captivating beat that does not detract from Barthel’s beautiful voice but compliments it. Their song “When I’m Small” is addicting, but I recommend checking out the whole album Eyelid Movies - it’s just the right mix of soothing and upbeat. They also just released an EP called Nightlife. I’m going to see them on Thursday at Union Transfer in Philly – photos to come!
