As we move into spring, CSA’s are opening up their summer applications, and it’s time to sign up. Act now, as most CSA’s only allot a certain amount of spots and tend to fill up quickly.

For those of you who aren’t familiar, CSA’s are a great way to healthy, sustainable, local eating. CSA’s, for “Community Supported Agriculture,” operate as a direct, farmer to consumer operation. A farm gives out a certain amount of shares each season – you can usually sign up for a full or half share – and then an assortment of fresh produce gets delivered weekly.

Search around for a farm that is best for you as they all put together different assortments. Some provide strictly vegetables while others will throw in farm-made cheese, preserves, meat, grains or whatever else they produce. CSA’s not only provide fresh food and community, but also culinary adventure. You’ll be exposed to great new vegetables that are local and in-season – forced to come up with delightful new dishes.

DO it, search for CSA’s in your area and sign up today – you’ll thank yourself after a summer long of fresh seasonal eating. :)

DO it, it’s really great. Me and a friend share the cost and split veggies- because we get so many. It’s always fun to get new local goods.

I joined a local CSA program last year for the first time & I can’t wait 2 do it again this year. Its definately a cooking adventure. The farm even provided recipes for the veggies they included which helped a lot.
