Leave it to WXPN to organize Philadelphia’s first ever festival dedicated solely to films about music! Starting today and running through the weekend, they will be screening several music films, one of which I am particularly excited about. Big Easy Express is a documentary that captures the musical journey of three bands – Mumford and Sons, Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros, and Old Crow Medicine Show – as they travel by train from San Francisco to New Orleans on a “tour of dreams.” The film documents “the bands’ vibrant railway adventures, the high canyons, joyous crowds, blasted skies, late-night laughter, endless music…and a train that was bound for glory.” Sounds magical!
It reminds me of one of my other favorites, Festival Express – which documents 70s legends the Grateful Dead, Janis Joplin, The Band and more as they tour across Canada via train. I’ve always felt this would be the best way to tour… what I would give to be on that train!
Speaking of Edward Sharpe and the Magnetic Zeros, Jade happens to be a Free People fan (you may remember she performed live at our Brentwood store a little while back) – check out this pic of her rocking our Summer Fun Dress on tour!
