Friday Tunes

One of my personal most anticipated albums this year is Beach House’s Bloom…pretty much every song they write is a masterpiece and I have no doubt this will be the same, judging by the first single “Myth,” which I’ve been listening to on repeat. They’re playing a show at the Bowery Ballroom on the 15th, the day their album drops – I’m crossing my fingers I can be there!

Here’s what the lovely Victoria Legrand has to say about Bloom:

“Bloom is a journey. For me, it is about the irreplaceable power of imagination as it relates to the intense experience of living. A bloom is only temporary… a fleeting vision of life in all its intensity and color, beautiful even if only for a moment.”

I’ve been listening nonstop the past couple of days to the new album from the Spinto Band, Shy Pursuit. This is the first album in over three years from the indie rock band, who have been together since the late nineties and are based out of Wilmington DE, not far from Philly.

They start a residency at Philadelphia venue Kung Fu Necktie on Tuesday May 8th, playing four shows at the venue throughout the month. I definitely plan on catching one – their music has a happy, hippie vibe to it that reminds me of some of the music I used to listen to in college. Check out “The Living Things” to get a feel for what I mean :)

Speaking of great summer tunes, I still can’t stop listening to Caveman’s CoCo Beware and I’m pretty stoked because I’m seeing them play tonight at the Milkboy in Philly! If you live in the area and haven’t been to Milkboy yet, I recommend checking it out – good food and beer selection downstairs, and a venue upstairs.

I’ve had the album since early march…it’s stunning. Buy it tomorrow.
