Eric Kvatek is an amazing photographer who we have worked with in the past, and he just recently opened a beautiful exhibition in New York City titled “Japanese Indigo: Boro.” The exhibit is a bit different than what you’d expect from a photographer. On frequent trips to Japan, Kvatek spent many early mornings scouring the antique markets for examples of Japanese indigo. He has amassed quite a collection of stunning and rare pieces, some dating back to the early 1800s, and they are on display at the gallery Mondo Cane in New York City until July 12th. The pieces look incredible, I would love to go up and see them in person!
While on his website I also found myself taking a little trip down memory lane looking at the photos he shot for Free People – he shot the Iceland portion of our November 2010 catalog and the October 2008 We the Free catalog – check out a few outtakes, they’re really lovely!
