DO: Try twice
I recently went to my first Bikram yoga class. In the style, every single position is repeated twice. The first time around your body is a little shaky, not quite ready to stretch in that way. Corrections need to be made. The second, it’s a little more prepared. You know what to expect, and you learned something from your mistakes the first time around. It got me to thinking…
In life, when do you ever do something perfectly the first time? It doesn’t matter how talented you are, it just barely ever happens. So don’t write something off after giving it just once chance. In addition, don’t make rash decisions about experiences, or even people, if they weren’t up to your standards on the first go around. Often our own moods or insecurities play into outcomes, and sometimes, we simply need to learn.
You’d be surprised at how adaptable the human mind and body are, so I decided that it’s important to treat life like a Bikram yoga class, and try everything at least twice. Give it a chance, allow yourself room to grow, and who knows what you’ll discover that you otherwise wouldn’t.
