DO: make dinner with your girlfriends
Sometimes every girl just needs a girl’s night. It doesn’t matter how much you love your man, you need to laugh and be around feminine energy.
One of my personal favorite ways to spend time with my girlfriends is making dinner. We all love to cook and don’t always have the money to eat out. Instead, we prepare a five star meal at home ourselves. One person has kale in the fridge that needs to be eaten, the other has potatoes, and we bring them together with herbs to put on our own little episode of Chopped. Someone might be an expert at browning the potatoes, but boy does the other know how to fry an egg. All the while, we have a little sous chef in the back, getting busy with a cutting board, chopping veggies and mincing garlic. It’s like clockwork, the ace team at work.
It’s not all game faces, though. We pour too many glasses of wine, watching steam rise from boiling pots and dancing around to music at high volume. We bust out horrible jokes that only we understand, laughing way too much.
At the end of it all, our plates are loaded with some amazing concoction and a blanket of silence spreads as forks raise food to mouths. Plates get polished, and we end up talking into the night. I wouldn’t trade nights like this for anything else in the world. It brings friends together. We’re a unit, a team. Not only do we cook together, but our minds come together and we have one of the best times a girl could ask for.
As I write this, my friend is lurking over my shoulder waiting for me to be done so that we can head home and whip something up. I’m highly looking forward to it. So spend a night with your friends and get to work in the kitchen. Have fun!
