By Tracy Allen ~ Week of July 16-22, 2012.
June 21-July 22
A new moon in Cancer this week gives you carte blanche to focus on you, something you haven’t been doing enough of lately, thanks to the tension around you. You’re a sensitive sign whose moods shift like the tide, and when your family, friends, boss or romantic partner act out, you feel it. Your protective shell serves a very useful purpose at times like this. So take a giant step back from anything (or anyone) that’s been giving you a headache and ask yourself a simple question: What do I need? Take a break from mothering everyone else, and give yourself some TLC. You deserve it, birthday girl!
July 23-August 22
The weeks leading up to your birthday often have a quiet, personal, almost melancholy feel to them, since the sun is tucked away in the last house of your chart, an area that represents spirituality, seclusion, endings, dreams, intuition, secrets and karma. You’re dwelling in the darkness of your own subconscious at this time of year—an uneasy place for Leos, who are ruled by the sun, which is of course characterized by daylight. You’ll feel better if you align yourself with the energy of the cycle you’re in, so try to adjust your vision to the dimness. What in your life is winding down? What do you need to leave behind you as you move into your New Year? Let it go.
August 23-September 22
Mars in your financial sector harmonizes with generous Jupiter in your career angle, making this a great week to concentrate on making more money through work. Your career angle also rules ambition, goals and public status, so aim higher than you normally would. Virgos are naturally fairly humble—comfortable in a behind-the-scenes worker-bee role where you can feel useful. But think about pitching a big project, going for a dream job, selling your boss on your overdue promotion. You never know how far you can go until you throw your hat in the ring. One caveat: With Mercury retrograde the next few weeks, plot strategy and do your homework; don’t communicate (verbally or in writing) your wishes to those in power just yet.
September 23-October 22
With Mars in your sign, you’re all about making things happen, and when the action planet clicks with optimistic Jupiter in your future sector, you have the lovely—albeit momentary—feeling that nothing can stand in your way. Enter Pluto and Uranus, stage right and stage left, bringing your the-sky’s-the-limit moment to a halt. When a family crisis or relationship crisis erupts, your first instinct is to broker a peace treaty, Libras being the diplomats of the zodiac. But there’s a fine line between diplomacy and manipulation, and the only way to make sure you’re not crossing it is to disengage. Your positive attitude will return if you can manage to separate yourself from the fray and resist the urge to try to change people.
October 23-November 21
Mercury retrograde always complicates communication, so when your co-rulers, Pluto and Mars, do battle this week in your communication and unconscious houses, it’s a variation on the theme—just one more level of complexity in your relationships. There’s so much churning inside you, and any attempts to put it into words right now will be challenging. But that’s not to say you shouldn’t try. The fact that perception is traveling via alternate pathways can be a good thing, making way for intuition, empathic understanding and subconscious breakthroughs. Or it could end up like that childhood game of telephone, where something is whispered from person to person, and it keeps changing as it’s misheard! It truly could go either way, so don’t struggle. Surrender to the unknowable.
November 22-December 21
This is one of those weeks where it’s helpful to remember some basic lessons from childhood about sharing, playing nice with others and delaying gratification. Active Mars in your affiliations zone is making it so that you practically need to get committee approval on anything you want to do. You much prefer to be spontaneous and freewheeling, but if you can accept being part of a group for a while, you’ll find some truth in that saying, “There’s strength in numbers.” Go along to get along for now, and you may well benefit from a group effort. Now’s the time to ask yourself what you could use some help with.
December 22-January 19
Strange as it sounds, while pondering your forecast, I couldn’t get a club hit from 1990 out of my head. It says exactly what’s going on with you: “I’ve got the power! It’s gettin’ it’s gettin’ it’s gettin’ kinda hectic.” Pluto in Capricorn is the power, while Mars in your authority angle and Jupiter in your coworkers sector are making life hectic. You’re working hard as usual, but hitting speed bumps in the form of higher-ups and coworkers—a recurring problem that’s been stressing you out lately. Close your office door (or wait ‘til you get home if you don’t have an office), and bust a move to this song! If old-school rap isn’t your thing, listen to whatever will bring an instant party into your head and allow you to dance your stress away.
January 20-February 18
Let’s-go Mars is in your journeys sector, so you’re probably dying for a getaway right about now. But with Mercury retrograde in your relationship angle, chances are your travel companions aren’t on the same page. Or maybe you’ve finally managed to wrangle some days off and a plane ticket…and then your flight gets cancelled. Messenger Mercury’s retrograde period is an infamously tricky time to get information or oneself from point A to point B—both technology and trips are affected. If you are lucky enough to be heading out of town, expect minor annoyances and go with the flow. Staying put? Expect slight miscommunication and laugh it off.
February 19-March 20
We’re all a bit on edge this week, with the planets forming harsh angles to each other and creating an air of conflict. Since it’s in your nature to soak up vibes like a sponge, you’re especially aware of the discord. One bright spot: the new moon in your creativity house suggests that the best way to nurture yourself now is to recommit to a creative project that’s near and dear to your heart—or to dream up a new one if there’s nothing that has that kind of emotional pull for you. And put your commitment out there to friends, asking them to reinforce it in the coming year.
March 21-April 19
You’ve got a lot going on, even for you! Mostly career and relationship-related stuff—and even though you don’t mind putting in the effort to make both work, you do mind feeling like you’re not in the driver’s seat. With your ruling planet, Mars, hanging in your partnership zone and clashing with both Pluto in your authority sector and Uranus in your sign, you do have to cede a certain amount of control to outside influences for the time being. Cheerful Jupiter in your local-environment house means that venting to your siblings or exploring a neighborhood—as disparate as those two things sound—are great stress relievers.
April 20-May 20
It’s a put-one-foot-in-front-of-the-other type of week, where you just have to keep it moving and tackle the tasks at hand. It’s hard to see the point of everything you need to do now—in one way or another, something on your to-do list is not in keeping with your expectations or dreams. But with Mars in your service sector and Jupiter in your self-esteem house, making yourself useful, doing what’s required and helping someone else out will make you feel good about yourself, even if you’re not sure what you’re working towards. Be patient for now, and take pride in your stick-to-it-ive-ness.
May 21-June 20
Jupiter in your sign is opening up a world of possibilities for you, and you’re taking on a project or two that you’re excited about. You’re also probably trying to get other people on board, a dicey proposition this week. Not only is your ruler, Mercury, retrograde, but Mars in your creativity sector (another reason you’re so fired up about that project) is sparring with two heavyweight planets. Friends or networking contacts could behave unpredictably, and when psychological subtext creeps into your interactions, you don’t know how to read it and you don’t really want to anyway! Your enthusiasm for what you’re doing is spurring you on to spread the wealth, but if everyone’s not in sync, no worries. Do your thing, and they may catch up later.
