How Free People Bloggers Wear Plaid

This week’s trend “Rad in Plaid” is all about taking influence from 90’s grunge and making it your own with a “come as you are” attitude. Plaid has that causal cool feel to it that we love and it’s easy to adapt to a look that suits you. For our lookbook we loved layering up with all sorts of texture to create interesting silhouettes that emphasized that grunge feel. We picked one item from our lookbook and styled it in a way that worked for us! Here are our choices.

I’ve been a plaid lover since the moment I got my very first plaid skort in first grade. I still remember exactly how I felt in it, and if it hadn’t been passed down to one of my younger relatives, I can guarantee you I’d be wearing it right now. The best part about the outfit I created is that I paired the plaid top with a maxi dress instead of just a skirt, so I can easily tie the little plaid guy around my waist whenever I want for a whole new look. Throw on some tough boots and a statement necklace and you’re good to go. Nineties grunge rules!

As someone who grew up in the 90s I will always love plaid, but the way I wear it definitely changes over the years. Right now I’m really into plaid pants, which I don’t think I’ve worn since middle school! These plaid cords are perfect and I love the idea of wearing them with other patterns like stripes, florals or sequin! I also feel like the need to be paired with this black suede converse – they were meant to be together.

When it comes to early fall I always seem to reach for plaid shirts to wear with my jeans. I feel plaid adds something different to a basic outfit and I like the Americana feel it has. Having always worn plaid in terms of shirts, I’m itching to change up my look a bit this fall and try some plaid pants with simple knits. They have a cozy feel to them that just makes you want to go and escape to a cabin for a few days, I like that.
