From the opening notes of the opening track of the album The Greatest, I fell in love with Cat Power and her beautiful music. Something about the piano and the wispiness of her voice, as well as the beautiful lyrics that came out of her mouth, spoke to me in a way that I needed to hear at that point in my life. It’s been a long time since she has released new music, and I couldn’t be more excited about her new album Sun that comes out next week. You can actually stream the entire thing now on NPR and it is everything I hoped it would be. Her music has definitely grown since The Greatest, with more layers to her sound now, both musically and vocally – which is very clear from the opening track of Sun, “Cherokee.” Check it out over at NPR and let me know what you think! And, listen to a playlist of a few of my favorite Cat Power songs below.
It doesn’t seem fair that someone so talented is also so incredibly gorgeous…I have always admired Chan Marshall’s style because it seems so real and down to earth, with a tomboyish quality to it. I love when it doesn’t look like people are trying to impress anyone, yet they still look amazing.
