Saturday DO: Fall-ify Your Closet

DO: Fall-ify Your Closet

As much as I hate to admit it, summer is winding down.  Fall is just around the corner and with it comes a whole new wardrobe.  Time to dig out the boxes in the back of my closet that are full of bulky sweaters, corduroys, tights, thick socks, scarves, hats, gloves…all the items stored away (joyfully) at summer’s start.  I have no problem packing all of that stuff away and filling my closet with tanks and shorts, dresses and skirts, but the other way around is always a bit depressing if you’re not a cold-weather person.  I’m trying to take a different approach to it this year so it’s a little bit more enjoyable.

One thing that helps with this process is to fill up some bags with clothes that you no longer wear and donate them to a charity, or if you need some extra pocket money, have a yard sale!  I also love the idea of organizing clothes by color – not only will it make your closet prettier to look at, but it will be easier to find things as well. J  Lastly, we all have some favorite pieces for each season that we hate having to say goodbye to (even if it’s just for a few months) so pick a handful of your favorites like that perfect white dress or tank top, and keep it in your closet for fall. Find ways to layer with other items so you can keep wearing it, and bring a little taste of endless summer to your wardrobe!

oh no, don’t pack your summer stuff away! just do some layering for the endless summer feeling. most if my silk summer dresses are a part of my winter wardrobe – and we do have very cold winters here in europe. I layer them with a jumper, some woolen tights or leggings and some tall boots, I add a coat and that’s it! same for some of my shorts but depents of the material. crochet tunics are brilliant winter wear, just put a longsleeve underneath and wear it with skinnies or flares!

I just cleaned out my closet last weekend. I ended up donating 5 big bags of clothes that have hung there for so long without being worn! It’s a good feeling, and even though I am pretty bummed about summer ending, I’m the tiniest bit excited to fill up my closet with some fall/winter staples (maybe from FP!) :)
