How To Create A Yoga Space In Your Home

UPDATE: This post originally ran on July 7, 2012, but as we’re starting to feel little hints of cooler fall weather, we’re getting the urge to cozy up inside our homes — and what better a thing to do inside the comfort of your own home than practice yoga?!

Doing yoga at home rules. Of course it’s awesome to practice in a studio with a class to motivate you and a skilled instructor to make sure you’re reaching your potential, but there’s something so relaxing about being able to just unwind and set yourself free in a space you can call your own.

If you do opt to practice yoga at home, you’ll have the best experience if you take the time to create a space that’s meant for practicing yoga. We may not all have enough room in our homes for a permanent yoga room or even so much as a “yoga corner”, but if you choose one spot to convert into a designated yoga area, your mind and body will become accustomed to it, making it easier for you to relax and focus — every single time.

1. Choose a Spot

 Attic with Window

There’s a lot to consider when choosing a location for your yoga space. This spot is meant to be relaxing and calming, so pick a place that easily allows for those things. If you have a roommate who loves to listen to TV on full volume or a dog who insists on run rampant around your kitchen, choose a spot that’s as far away from those places as possible. Think about the lighting of the room – if you’re going to be doing yoga during daylight hours, pick a spot that allows sunlight to stream in through the windows. This will energize you and help you to feel closer to nature… open the windows and you’ll feel even more connected!

2. Deck the Walls

Blue Wall

If possible, it’s great to paint your walls a calming color like mint green, lavender, or peach. If you don’t have the time or resources to paint the walls, hang up a sheet of that same color! You’ll be surprised how much the color of a room can help you to relax.

3. Make it Feel like Nature

 Indoor Plants

Indoor Plants

Hopefully you’ve chosen a spot that allows for lots of natural light and a nice breeze on fair-weathered days. To come even closer to nature, bring in a whole bunch of plants and cluster them in a corner or scatter them about the room. Not only will the appearance of plant life make you feel welcome and happy, the plants will remove excess carbon dioxide from the air, keeping you energized. If you can get your hands on a little indoor fountain, set that up in your yoga space, as well! The sound of flowing water will relax your mind, allowing you to focus on your breathing.

4. Scent up Your Space

 Incense Burning

There are tons of benefits of different scents, like relaxing your mind and energizing your body. This is super helpful while practicing yoga, so choose your favorite aromas and scent up your yoga space in the form of essential oils, candles, incense, or all three!

5. Grab the Essentials

Feet on Yoga Mat

Lemon Cucumber Water

Once steps 1-4 are completed, you’re almost ready  to use your space – you just need your yoga essentials! Grab your mat, your music, and your water, set ‘em up, and you’re good to go! If you feel like going that extra mile, hide your speakers behind a plant, get a mat that blends in with your floor, and drink water from a glass jar with lemon and cucumber slices. Now you’re ready for the ultimate yoga experience. Have fun!

Yoga is most important for us. But for this we need a good environment. So this post very helpful for this. Very fine.

So I’ve had a look at your instagram account. Good stuff, but does anyone in the office know the difference between “peak” and “peek?” I suggest using a dictionary as well as making a note of the definitions for future posts… As a major retailer it’s probably wise to use proper grammar and spelling!

@molly,
Why would you even comment if you have nothing to contribute except knocking the intent of the article? It costs nothing to say something nice; it costs even less to STFU altogether.

@stef,
I have an idea – how about you take your nick-picking b__tch ass attitude elsewhere? You really felt your cocky grammer lesson was necessary in response to this wonderful post with a lesson in grammer? You must be a f__king TREAT to spend time with. Here’s a tip for you: when you reach perfection in every thing you do, please send us the link to your blog.

ng that (book, seminar, conference etc).”
But relating to closer inspection it’s more likely them to did not really put anything in it.They require to think away from the square – they want to take a thought (preferably beyond one) and contemplate how they were able to implement the concept or concepts expressed by means of others as well as ‘tweak’ the crooks to fit their own business.Action is what is important; inaction ends up in mediocrity — and you don’t want any mediocre online business! Advertising is certainly action – it needs your action involving monitoring so you get the best through your efforts.
Another thing it is advisable to learn to accomplish – is to utilize words that ‘sizzle’ and also use those words to develop the appropriate atmosphere where a sale will be made.Too often you want to rely in our product to build the deal – whereas the power of the expression is a lot more powerful instrument (both oral and written).Don’t panic to benefit from extravagant key phrases – HUGE is better than Big; AWESOME reads much better than Wonderful; LEAP OUT allows more signifying than Take note of; – brainstorm by means of others to find the right word which can be both STRONG (energetic, lively, forceful) as well as EXCITING (thrilling; exhilarating) and watch your gross sales increase!
