DIY: Update Your Tired Toms With Color Blocking

Toms are the type of shoe that are so easy to throw on and go that they tend to get pretty worn out.  Mine just reached the point where they had a hole in the toe, so I decided it was time to give them a little makeover – simultaneously fixing the hole and giving them a whole new look.  I love the idea of adding fabric in a different color to the toes of the shoes, giving them a really cute color blocked look.  The best part is, it is incredibly easy to do this – you don’t even need to sew them!

What you need: a pair of Toms, your fabric of choice (I used some old scraps of denim), scissors, and fabric glue. I used this Tacky Glue that I use for pretty much everything (including gluing the soles of my shoes back on). It worked amazingly well and dries very quickly.

Take your fabric and line it up with the stitching on the Toms, making sure that you have enough to cover the toe section.

Cover the toe section of your Toms with glue, and line up one side of your fabric with the natural seam of the shoe.

Trim the excess fabric along the sole of the shoe, adding more glue as you move around the toe of the shoe and adhere the fabric to the Toms.

When you get to the toe, fold the fabric the same way the Toms are to begin with. Trim the excess fabric and glue the fold down, holding it for a couple of minutes until it is semi-dry. Repeat the process with your other shoe, and ta-dah! Your Toms are as good as new. :)
