Bun Tutorial: 3 Easy Methods from FreePeople on Vimeo.
UPDATE: This post originally ran on July 19 2012 but we still love the easy bun for fall so we thought we’d share it again!
It has been so hot this summer, hotter than ever it seems, and when it comes to my hair all I want to do is throw it up in a quick bun every day. I’ve never been one of those people who is good at hair styles though, so I decided to ask some of our fp girls who are! We found three girls who have perfected the bun and asked them to share their tricks :)
Mandi’s Bun
If you have long, silky hair try this one – first, spray your hair with sea salt spray to add a little texture and moisture. Flip your hair over for volume and use your fingers to smooth out any knots. Flip back over, pull hair to top of head and twist. Wrap the twisted hair around itself and then – here’s the trick – tuck the end underneath and through the center of the twist. Pull the end through and tuck back underneath, and then use one of our printed hair ties to wrap around the bun and secure. Add a printed wire bow barrette or vintage bow barrette for a girly touch!
Mandi is wearing the Studded Denim Vest and Printed Wire Bow Barrette.
Kristina’s Bun
This bun will work for any type of hair! Pull your hair back like you’re putting it in a ponytail – using a hair tie, make a small “mini bun.” Take the rest of your hair and twist it, and wrap around the mini bun. Secure with bobby pins and you’re done!
Kristina is wearing the Heart Signet Ring, Swift Ring, Linear Knuckle Ring, Sparkle Midi Ring.
This bun is great if you have thick, shorter hair. Spray with sea salt spray and flip over your hair to fluff it up. Pull the hair together on top of your head and fold over, curling around the top of your head – secure with a hair tie.
Carly is wearing the Lagoon Skull Bracelet, Cross Bracelet.

I did my bun like carly’s yesterday…I just wanted to get it out of my face..my hair is so long and thick it rarely stays with just Bobby pins, so I have to buy large hair ties to hold it up and this was the cutest style to go with.
