Glam Rock: Inspired By Our Latest Trend

Post image for Glam Rock: Inspired By Our Latest Trend

I always love thinking about the inspiration behind our various trends – especially those relating to music.  It’s easy to see why our latest trend, Glam Rock, was given that name with its statement-making metallics, rich embellishment, and luxurious feel. Glam Rock refers to a period in music history that emerged out of the UK in the early 1970s, characterized by the over the top style of musicians like David Bowie and T. Rex.  Big hair, statement makeup, platform shoes, and glitter and metallics were the key elements of this look and what better time of year to incorporate them into today’s style than the holidays? It’s always fun to take your look to the next level this time of year and wear things that wouldn’t really work in other seasons, like velvet and gold. I also love experimenting with makeup – especially on New Year’s eve! With these looks don’t be afraid to rock a seductive smokey eye or pile on the glitter…after all the holidays only come once a year :). Here’s some glam rock inspiration and info on how I would wear this trend.

When thinking of glam rock, Debbie Harry also came to mind, with her dark eyes and sultry style. From left, Ashley Smith channeling Blondie, Kate Moss, and Debbie Harry herself.

I would love to wear this on New Year’s Eve! For a nighttime glam look, I would pair the Ruffled Verse Party Dress with the Studded Seattle Love Boot, Smokey Topaz Ring, Mystic River Pendant, and a dark smokey eye.

daytime glam

For a daytime glam look (great for a more casual holiday party or gathering!) I would pair the Embroidered Vegan Leather Pant with the Solid Low Back Top, Santa Maria Cross Pendant, Sunbelt Ankle Boot, and some fun glittery makeup.
