I watched Terrence Malick’s Days of Heaven for the first time a couple of months ago, and my breath was taken away. Never before have I seen a film shot so beautifully. Every scene was like a painting, a great photograph that captured an emotion so delicately that you find yourself just falling deep into the scene.
The film was shot in 1978, it’s a romantic drama set in the early 20th Century. It tells the story of two lovers working the Texas Panhandle harvesting crops, where a love triangle unfolds. Terrence insisted on only shooting the film during the golden hours and the outcome is pretty magnificent, and landed him an Academy award for best cinematography.
If you have the opportunity you should watch it, it’s pretty magical!
