A Movie We Love: Days Of Heaven

I watched Terrence Malick’s Days of Heaven for the first time a couple of months ago, and my breath was taken away. Never before have I seen a film shot so beautifully. Every scene was like a painting, a great photograph that captured an emotion so delicately that you find yourself just falling deep into the scene.

The film was shot in 1978, it’s a romantic drama set in the early 20th Century. It tells the story of two lovers working the Texas Panhandle harvesting crops, where a love triangle unfolds.  Terrence insisted on only shooting the film during the golden hours and the outcome is pretty magnificent, and landed him an Academy award for best cinematography.

If you have the opportunity you should watch it, it’s pretty magical!

i am an english major at wvu and just completed a class on terrence malick’s films. I told my professor this was my favorite of the films because of the aesthetic shots Malick keeps in all of his films but also their wonderful outfits! I received an A in the class ;) ! The New World shares the beauty Days of Heaven has, you’d love it!
