As the year winds down, it seems like the music scene slows down a bit and magazines and radio stations focus on end of the year lists and countdowns, rehashing the best and worst of the last year. So when I heard the new song from Phosphorescent this week, it was like a breath of fresh air. Phosphorescent is the project of Brooklyn songwriter Matthew Houck, who wrote the forthcoming album in Mexico. He says, “It sounds really cheesy, but I went down there with a guitar and got a little hut on the beach in Tulum, on the Yucatan Peninsula.” That sounds beautiful to me, and I love imagining that scenario while listening to the first single “Song For Zula.” The background strings blend perfectly with his gentle rasp and a faint echo gives it a dreamy quality that is so soothing to the ears. Listen below and let me know if you love it too!
More indie music we love!

Yess love, love, love. Have you ever listened to Virgin Forest? It’s made up of former members of Phosphorescent and they make beautiful music too. Here’s a link to one of my favorite songs of theirs http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CYyaec-IbC0
