Recipe: Holiday Detox Smoothie

The holidays are a time for family, friends, love, and of course… lots of food.  It always leaves me craving something really fresh and healthy to cleanse my system, and this smoothie does just that.  It’s quick and easy and perfect for the day after a big holiday meal or party.  The ingredients in this smoothie all have their own slew of health benefits, too.  Carrots are rich in antioxidants and beta-carotene, which is transformed into vitamin A in the liver.  Vitamin A helps the liver flush toxins from the body, which is hugely beneficial during the holidays. The sweetness of carrots can also help curb sugar cravings :). In addition to these great benefits, carrots are known to improve skin, vision, and teeth and gum health! Apples are a great source of antioxidants and vitamin C, which gives your immune system a boost. They are also good at satisfying hunger with a small amount of calories, so their inclusion in the smoothie makes it even more satisfying. Lastly, ginger is the perfect final addition with its ability to help ease the stomach and treat migraines, colds, and the flu. Here’s the recipe for my holiday detox smoothie – if you have your own recipe please share it in the comments, I’d love to try it!

Holiday Detox Smoothie

Makes 2 servings

1 1/2 carrots, peeled and chopped – if your carrots are larger, just use one. Mine were on the smaller side so I used one and a half.

1/2 an apple – you can use any type of apple you want, I chose a red gala.

1 tbsp ginger, freshly chopped.

1/2 cup pure apple juice

In addition to these ingredients I added a 1/2 cup of water, just to thin the smoothie out a bit.

Chop and peel the ingredients and add all into blender.

Blend until smooth, pour in a glass and enjoy! I had this for lunch today and it was delicious :).

I have a similar juice recipe, except instead of apple juice I use fresh lime juice. Try it!

I totally agree with you Kelly. Detoxification is a vital function of our body. Though some body organs do it automatically but in todays era it is not sufficient so we need to give support to these organs from outside. And of course I am going to try this very soon as it is looking delicious and healthy. Please keep posting recipes like this one.
Thanks

My roommate recently bought a juicer after feeling chronically sick for a couple of months. He absolutely LOVES it. As a college student, it is really hard to eat healthy in the face of numerous late-night processed temptations. My roommate juices fruits and vegetables daily, and he claims that on the days that he juices he feels his healthiest, and has an overall sense of well-being since he started juicing. I am looking forward to following his lead soon. My mom was really into juicing while I was growing up, and it is definitely a healthier way to live!

I made a great one after Bikram the other day with whatever I could find in the house- ended up being a pear, a tangerine, about 3/4 cup frozen cranberries, a few large fresh mint sprigs and some apple cider! was delish I recommend giving it a shot!

Did you strain it? It looks like there aren’t any chunks in yours.

Oh for heaven’s sake. Can anyone actually name the so called “toxins” that will be flushed from my body? This is a myth. And the antioxidant hypothesis is pretty much dead now. Apart from that, it looks delicious

I don’t know that this is necessarily detoxifying but I did feel healthier drinking it! The ginger flavor was very potent but my sinuses do feel incredibly clear now and overall, it was good. I added ice cubes instead of water and blended it extra long for a better texture.

Aw, this was an exceptionally nice post. Finding the time and actual effort to produce a really good article… but what can I say… I put things
off a whole lot and never seem to get anything done.

Hey! Do you know if they make any plugins to safeguard against hackers?

I’m kinda paranoid about losing everything I’ve worked hard on. Any recommendations?
