The Concept Behind Our Dark Rose Lookbook

Our trend this week, Dark Rose, conjures up this season’s dark side in feminine lace and opulent onyx. A mixture of lace and chiffon play contrast with black leather and studs. A perfect trend capsule as we start to transition from our winter wardrobes into a spring/summer one. We caught up with our Web Merchandiser to find out how the concept came about.dark rose

Tell us about the inspiration behind Dark Rose?

We are excited about showing florals in an unexpected way for Spring with a darker color palate mixing in pieced lace, oxblood prints, and gothic accessories.  The general inspiration was to think about our Candy customer in a new way- showing how lace and floral can be styled with tough accessories for a dynamic, elevated look.

How would you find the perfect balance between the darker side and the lighter side of this trend?

I love the tension between the boy/girl elements here- dark and light- tough and sweet.  The key is to incorporate sheer layers, pattern, and ivory to lighten up the story.

Which image is your favorite and why?

The seated image of Elsa wearing the FPX Annie Oakley skirt with the Mesh V Neck Cami.  Her pose is so beautiful and graphic.  It feels like the perfect expression of the trend- mixing lacey details with a tough cool girl feel.

If a song went along with this trend what would it be?

Probably something by the Cure- like “Close to Me”.  I love how their music combines romanticism with a bit of darkness.
