Hairstyle We Love: The PonyFish

Yes, that’s right, it’s the hairstyle that combines two of our favorite things: ponytails and fishtail braids! This hairstyle is a great twist on the standard ponytail, and we love how fresh and easy it feels for spring and summer. When the sun comes out and it’s time to go outside and play, it will keep your hair out of your face while still looking adorable. And, once you master the fishtail, it’s incredibly easy to do! Once you master this style, prove it! Instagram your hair and tag it #FPPonyFish!

We like this hairstyle with the ponytail up pretty high on the head.  Keep in place with a hair elastic – if you want, you can use a strand of hair to wrap around the pony and cover the hair elastic – check out our perfect ponytail tutorial for instructions! Next simply braid the hair into a fishtail – if you haven’t gotten the braid down quite yet, check out a couple of our helpful tutorials here and here.

Jess has really great thick hair that works perfectly for this – but you can do it with thin hair too! You can also change it up by pulling your fishtail apart a bit to make it messier and thicker, or you can leave it clean like Brigette’s below.

Secure the bottom of the PonyFish with a small elastic and you’re ready to go!
