One of our lovely house guests this past weekend was Jenni of the blog I Spy DIY – so of course we had to get our craft on one morning before heading to the festival! Jenni brought supplies for three projects: friendship bracelets, wrapped sunglasses and flower crowns. I loved the colorful bracelets and thought it was such a perfect festival DIY – if you’re going to a festival with a friend or group of friends, make these bracelets as a symbol of your trip and to remember the festival by.
What you need: Scissors, cord (the cord is pictured above on the larger spools), pliers, lobster clasps, jumprings, end caps, super glue.
Start by selecting the two cord colors you want to use, and a third color to use as your base (this color will not be visible when you’re finished). Cut about an arm’s length of the base cord color and fold it in half. Insert the loop where you folded it in half in an end cap. Next cut about three arms’ lengths of each color you’ll be using on the outside of your bracelet. Insert the end of each into the end cap. Add a dab of super glue to hold them in place, and use the pliers to close the end cap securely around the cord.
Now it’s time for the easy part! You’re basically just fishtail-braiding the cord. Start by taking the right outside string and weave it over the right-hand base cord, and under the left-hand base cord. Then take the left outside string and weave it over the left-hand base cord and under the right-hand base cord. Repeat, starting on the right side again. Continue weaving right to left until the bracelet reaches your desired length. Trim off the extra cord and insert all four cord ends into another end cap. Attach the two end caps with jump rings and a lobster clasp, and your bracelet is ready to wear!

Very cool! Going to try and make it! :)
These are cool! What brand and type of fiber is the cord on the black spools?
I love the modern take on friendship bracelets.
I remember when I was making bracelets nonstop when I was 8 – so much fun!

I have to make a couple of those!
such a cute bracelet! i’ve actually tried this once on a longer scale and made a leather beaded wrap bracelet. this herringbone knot you did looks very nice when you ladder it with beads. but these are cute. i never thought of adding a clasp closure before. looks a lot neater with the clasps.
it is so beauty….
These are so cute! I want to try :)
Very cute, but I’m not sure to do it well. Let me try!
I made one of these over the weekend using two wooden beads in place of ball caps and embroidery floss instead of colored cord. The floss just needs to be double stranded to make it thicker. I thought I’d mention this because I came home to find I only had brown leather cording, no caps and didn’t feel like driving to the craft store.
omg so cute i made 2 for meand my friend. thnx
Very cute and can literally go with anything. http://www.learnhowtoknitascarf.com
Excellent post! I’ve pinned this and will also post a link from our Friendship Bracelet page. I make a lot of paracord bracelets and have used the Fishtail in that way, but this is a really cool new twist! Love it.
