March 21–April 19

About once a month, the sun and moon come together and begin a new cycle, and for the sign that they conjoin in, it’s like New Year’s and a birthday rolled into one. The fresh-start vibe of a new moon makes it especially appealing to you initiative-loving Rams. Lunar energy has to do with emotions and needs, so focus on how you feel about the coming year and what you require. You’re going through a period of new beginnings, with various planets uniting in Aries, and checking in with your emotions will help you to align with this particular beginning. Your thought process doesn’t catch up to your feelings until later in the week, when cerebral Mercury enters your sign and revs up your brain. In the meantime, just as you’re getting enthused about kicking off your new year, someone close to you may rain on your parade, or the relationship itself may impede your excitement about the future. Adjust to the reality that comes into view, but don’t assume it’s a choice between being tied down and taking off.

If you can think of a spiritual practice that resonates for you, resolve to incorporate it into your life going forward. CANCER

June 21–July 22

This week’s new moon in your public-status angle encourages you to ask yourself how you feel about your career track and your reputation in general—and to then either substantiate your belief in your position by embracing a leadership role or create a new goal that’s based on your current needs. As a rather guarded sign, you may feel exposed with four planets traveling through the most public part of your chart, lending you a higher profile for the time being. If pursuing your ambitions makes you feel potentially vulnerable, use this week to recommit on an emotional level to your professional development. Saturn stirs up self-doubt later in the week, and his position in your play sector could cause you to think that you’re sacrificing fun, creativity, romance or children (perhaps all of the above) for ambition. It’s tempting to play it safe and minimize change, but that’s not the answer. Moving forward in more than one area of your life requires lots of adjustment.

LEO

July 23–August 22

The new moon in your journeys zone plants a seed this week for future adventure. Think of ways of expanding your horizons in 2013 that appeal to you. If travel makes you come alive, then determine that you’ll make it a priority in the coming months. If you have a thirst for learning, sign up for a class, apply to grad school, buy CDs that teach you to speak a foreign language or create a reading list pertaining to a topic of interest. The point is to commit to something that both fills an emotional need and helps to widen your perspective. A parent, domestic responsibilities, childhood history or insecurity about shaking things up too much may hamper your spirit of adventure later in the week. Uncertainty about how different the future can possibly be from the past could all too easily clip your wings; don’t let it.

VIRGO

August 23–September 22

Although Virgos want to be able to break things down intellectually and make sense of them, your best bet for moving forward this week is to take a cue from the new moon in your depth sector and lead with your passion. A new moon in your efficiency zone marks a new chapter beginning to unfold. Thanks to Saturn in your sign, you’re feeling the weight of responsibility squarely on you, and you’re not in a place to ask for help. Rather, people are leaning on you. So on the one hand, you’re trying to hold steady, to take care of business for yourself and those who need you, and on the other, you need to accept that your productivity is in a state of flux. Saturn is currently retrograde in Scorpio, slowing your progress, and your ruling planet Pluto turns retrograde as well this week.
