Several months ago we first got word around the office of a new capsule collection of clothing made with herbal dyes, and I could barely contain my excitement. I’ve been experimenting with natural dyes throughout the past year and there is something incredibly gratifying about wearing something that you know was made without any chemicals. When I saw the first pieces in this collection, I was completely blown away. The pieces were designed along the same lines as our Endless Summer collection – light, breezy silhouettes that you throw on and never want to take off because they just seem to float on your body. The colors are exquisite, and due to the process of dyeing these garments individually by hand, no two are alike. The story behind the line makes it even more amazing, and I could never do it justice, so watch the video below with the designers behind Maheya as they explain their inspiration and how this collection came to life.
Maheya: “Of the Earth.”
Dream Weaver Maxi, Saraswati Tunic, Lotus Path Top, V-Neck Button Trim Kaftan.

Amazing! I love it that each one is individually dyed by hand and that each one is unique. The tag is really cool too. We are in desperate need of more companies with a conscience!

I’m a little confused, where is it that they learned this technique from? “These women, they” etc. I’d love to know where.
Pretty!
I am so happy to see Free People embracing natural dye techniques! The clothing looks beautiful and effortless, and it is really cool that this line launched on earth day! :)
Maheya means “of the earth” really? In what language? googling it and cant find anything except references to this collection.

Kristina- the women that make these dye prints are self-taught, they were given the facilities to work in and the opportunity to play, and the patterns you see are what they came up with!
