5 Healing Benefits Of The Sun

I always love noticing how much happier everyone seems to be when the sun is out. When spring hits and the days get longer, the general vibe of everyday life is just better. It’s important to understand that overexposure to the sun can be harmful to your health, but it’s equally as important to know that allowing yourself to indulge in the sun’s rays in moderation can be extremely beneficial to your health. Here are five healing benefits of the sun.

Eye, sun

It helps you sleep. Exposing yourself to direct sunlight in the morning helps to keep your biological clock on track, so you’ll be filled with energy during the day, and ready to sleep again come nighttime!

It can cure depression. Sunlight produces serotonin in the body, which is a chemical known to bring about feelings of happiness. Those who suffer from seasonal affective disorder (SAD) will especially benefit from the sun in this way!

It helps fight infection. Exposure to the sun increases your white blood cells, which help defend your body against diseases. The sun’s light also kills bad bacteria – it has been used as a disinfectant since at least the early 1900’s.

It’s like exercising. While being in the sun may not directly help you lose weight, some of the benefits are quite similar to those of exercise. Sunlight increases the amount of oxygen in your bloodstream, and allows your body to more easily deliver oxygen to your tissues.

It helps lower blood pressure. High blood pressure is one of the biggest risk factors for heart disease and stroke. Scientists now claim that UV rays in sunlight can help release stored nitrogen into your bloodstream, which relaxes your blood vessels – and, in turn, lowers blood pressure. Because of this, some scientists believe that the benefits of sun exposure may outweigh the risks! (Source: Medical News Today)

With the crazy, busy lifestyles we’re all living these days, it’s important to remember that getting out in the sun is one of the keys to keeping ourselves healthy – and happy! If you’re having a stressful day and you feel that you don’t even have a moment to rest, make it your business to find a moment, and get yourself out in the sun. Even if it’s just for ten minutes, stressful days are the days when it’s most important to let nature heal you with the power of the sun.

Sunny days are always uplifting! Ever since I swore off tanning, I’ve had a hard time figuring out how to get some sun in healthy doses. This post is motivating me to enjoy the sun a bit more:) I live in California after all!!

great sun-lovin post! i’m a firm believer that people also undergo some sort of photosynthesis – when we soak in sun rays we feel much more renewed and shiny happy again. it’s like the light that beams out there also connects with our inner light. thank you sun!

Excellent post..according to my dermatologist 10 minutes a day is enough for Vit. D anymore then that will start the skin to age…..not to mention those who have Lupus shouldn’t be out in the sun at all….or those who are on special meds….and in certain terms I believe since we don’t have the ozone like we used to we should be more careful in the sun…I’m 58 and have always used the sun sparingly, and my skin looks great, I look more in my late 30’s /early 40’s then late 50’s and have met women who are in their 40’s who look ancient because of sun-worshiping.

the hours that the Vitamin D is filtering in is the hours where we are told are not to espose to the Sun, that is between 2pm and 4 pm. I am a Son of the Sun I know from experience we are to take the Sun rays all day! Saludos and one love from Mexico (children of the Sun)
