DIY Painted Sticks & Photo Display

Today’s DIY has two parts: the first is painting sticks, and the second part is using those sticks to create a beautiful photo display! I’ve always loved the idea of gathering branches and sticks outside and painting them with bright colors and patterns, and then incorporating them into my decor. They look beautiful simply as a wall display, and I’ve also seen people attach hooks and mount them on a wall to use as a key holder. I decided to use mine to create unique photo displays — a great use for all you photo hoarders out there!

Start by collecting some sticks outside — if you plan on making a photo display, try to get two of similar length, but if you’re just doing this for fun, get a variety of shapes and sizes!

I used acrylic paints for this — I started with just the primary colors and some white paint and mixed them to create the shades I wanted.

Have fun with the painting and get as creative and crazy as you want!

Gather some photos to put in your display – since the sticks are so colorful, I used black and white photos. The rope was left over from my DIY macrame wall hanging.

Lay out the sticks and photos as you want them to appear in the display – this will help you determine how much rope you’ll need.

I simply tied the rope around the sticks as pictured.

Hang the photo display on a wall and attach photos to it with clothes pins or paper clips! The great thing about this display is that you can change the photos as often as you please.

I used two of the smaller sticks to make a mini photo display – I love the simplicity of this one.

What would you do with some painted sticks?
