Homemade Mud Mask

The trend we’re featuring online this week is called “By the Light of the Moon,” and it’s a romantic and ethereal trend story centered around dreamy fabrics, ruffles, and lace, with ornate collar necklaces giving a hard element to offset the softness. The images are beautiful and bring to mind a wandering forest nymph, treading barefoot through mossy forests and riverbeds.  It seemed like the perfect time for a DIY mud mask — something that is so easy to make at home and incredibly beneficial to your skin!  This mud mask only includes 3 ingredients, and you likely already have them in your kitchen.

*Whenever using natural remedies on your face, be sure to test them out first on a small patch of skin on the hand or arm to ensure you don’t have an allergic or bad reaction to it.

What you need:

2 tablespoons raw honey

1 teaspoon nutmeg

1 teaspoon cinnamon

Honey is great for the skin (it’s a great natural remedy for dry skin!) — it contains natural anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties that reduce swelling and redness, and heal blemishes.  Nutmeg also has many anti-inflammatory properties and is known to help heal acne scars — combined with honey it creates a powerful antiseptic.  While honey is incredibly moisturizing, the cinnamon helps to dry out the skin, bringing blood and oxygen to the surface and reducing oiliness.  In addition, the nutmeg and cinnamon help to exfoliate your skin when you wash the mask off.

Mix ingredients together to form a paste. Apply to face and let sit for 20 – 30 minutes. Rinse mask off thoroughly and feel that rejuvenated skin! I tried this last night and my skin felt incredible afterwards.

This is great! Can’t wait to try it. I love using nutmeg and cinnamon for all of their beneficial health properties… Especially since cinnamon is an anti-inflammatory, I’ve stopped taking pain relievers and switched to making tea or coffee with cinnamon :)

Oooo! Awesome! For those who are looking for an amazing raw honey, Wee Bee makes the best raw honey I’ve ever tried. It’s actually a bit addicting, so beware. :) Vitacost has the best price point I’ve found for it. Can I make suggestions like that on this blog? Hope so. Can’t wait to try this recipe!

1 part oatmeal (ground up to a powder in a blender works best), to 1 part honey, and 2 parts plain greek yorgurt. Add to that 4-8 crushed up aspirin tablets and you have a recipe that keeps my severely acne prone skin extremely happy! :)

tip: Make sure to test on a small part of your face or on your arm. I did this mask but added mashed bananas and olive oil, and i didn’t think i was allergic to any of these things and i put it all over my face. A couple minutes later my whole face was stinging and red and i was having a reaction. So, definitely test it first!
