This guest post comes from our contributor Amy Soderlind.
I don’t know how many of you spend whole days by yourself (on purpose)… for the enjoyment of spending time with you and only you. Late night summers give way to this very thought. Finding a place in your own city you have never been… or getting in your automobile and taking a trip to anywhere that is new to both your soul and soles.
This shoot was inspired by late August eves… what’s known to my whole being as my very favorite time of year. Those late afternoons that turn dark before you know it, though the temperature barely teeters. Your skin still wears that golden hue from the sun of June’s first strong kisses. A red lip is all you need to feel beautiful. Music plays live along sidewalks not yet walked… lights dangle from tree lined squares, where they, in the night, have taken a rather empty seat to the normal hustle of the day’s daily dos.
Most of us are surrounded by others throughout our days… weeks will go by before I sit down and realize I haven’t spent quality time with me in too long. This here… I say… spend 24 hours outside alone. Go to dinner by yourself. Bring a book. A journal. Go see a show that makes you comfortably uncomfortable. Put on a red lip for YOU. Reflect. To love yourself, unconditionally. To understand who you are alone, with only your own mind to answer to. Much becomes clear around you, all that was heavy suddenly dissolves. Negative thoughts lift … and the life you have made and continue to make seems, suddenly, limitless.…
When self love has been found (or found again and again), extraordinary new doors will open.
Cheers to the last of our summer eves… and cheers to you.

the pictures look amazing and how you wrote the article is just beautiful, i felt every word i read and it felt like i was closing my eyes, leaning back and relaxing along to the words, but in fact i was still upright and reading them.
simply, beautiful.
Beautiful suggestions. Now I know just what I’ve been longing for to end my summer on the right note: a date with myself.

Hear hear Woman!! I think at this point, anyone who has seen a scrap of Miss Amy’s work knows she’s super creative crazy talented in her vision and stylings… and if you’ve read her blog you get snippets into her mind with her well written intros to her pieces.
What most people hadn’t yet had the pleasure to see as much, and what makes Amy so very special, is how she takes her beautiful and worked-hard-for and fortunate place – her individualism – in this world &… one, chooses to live in it, two, the attitudes she chooses to bring forth in her life for herself and others, & three, how she communicates – comments – desires- loves – and hopes for all the world & people around her. Put her in the best spot in the house at a music festival or put her in the middle of nowhere on an unfamiliar continent – this lass’s absorption and delivery of self back out to the world is the same – soaking in the present moment, living for love, the value of both big moments and small, unabashed curiosity/shameless people watching . . . and seeing past the surface. Take a good deep look at her words here, ’cause girlfriend means it.
She’s also right on the money.
Thank you for that, Ashley! You are so right. Amy is such an angel… truly someone special.
couldn’t have said it better myself :)
Please please please do a tutorial on her fishtail and braid! So beautiful and effortless!
