I spent last weekend on Long Island, where I grew up. Yesterday, as I was preparing for my drive back down to Philly, my sister asked me if I wanted to join her for a walk. “It doesn’t have to be long,” she said. “I just need to be outside.” And so we walked.
We didn’t walk long; we didn’t walk far, but our walk was just enough to deliver what we needed: a touch of nature. Being immersed in nature allows us to feel calm and grounded. It’s like hitting a “reset” button, bringing us back to square one, whatever square one may be. I always find that there’s an incredible relaxation that comes from stepping foot into nature; a feeling of serenity that doesn’t seem able to be replicated by any other activity.
Make time to step outside and walk through nature whenever you can. Let your mind wander along with your body, but make a point to pay attention to whatever pieces of life you may come across. Study the shape of a leaf or the sound of a gust of wind. Be silent and let yourself be calmed and freed by the Earth beneath your feet.

<3 nature is the best!
I live near a pretty good hiking trail, so I tend to do this every once in a while too. I feel like it keeps me grounded, more whole. It’s almost spiritual.

Nature walks are my favorite, at home in Maine this is a daily thing for me, in the school year I am in the city (which don’t get me wrong, I love), and I miss nature, I spend time at parks, which is certainly better than nothing. But I couldn’t agree more, nature is calming.

I love going on hikes and living here in the mountains we have so many trails…I agree there is something about nature that is both very calming and spiritual. thanks for sharing this beautiful post!
I love that you don’t think about anything at all when you are on a nature walk! This is a lovely walk.
It is amazing how a nature walk can be both relaxing and energizing! Since I live in the country I am able to experience it on a regular basis just outside, but I like to take a longer nature walk every now and then myself.
Here is my most recent walk through the woods, which I recorded in my blog:
