First Aid Kit At Henry Miller Library

Music is what moves me through life, my vehicle if you will… 

I wake to it, and rest my eyes with it.

I write to it while thoughts weave quietly in and out of this here head…

I walk, run, dance, and drive to rhythm… no particular one, but many, of all shapes and sizes. Music, like style… should have no boundaries. Try it all at least once, for each will make you feel a different you.

Great musicians have a gift, to lift and drop their listeners to places they had yet to visit. It’s the ups, downs, heres and over theres that inspire us as individuals to recreate what we experience.

One of my favorite duos to do all the above with? First Aid Kit.

There are few words to describe the dynamism of these Swedish sisters. Singing siblings are almost hauntingly perfect in their “together” pitches, the harmonies… the way they dance with words and notes on stage so effortlessly. They set a tone that is neither over joyous nor subdued… it lies somewhere in the middle. Most middle ground may seem neutral, but not here… this musical space they explore is full of color, stories, choruses… it drips goodness.

This particular concert was held at the Henry Miller Library… a venue that defines magical moments.

Along Highway 1 on Big Sur’s dramatic cliff lines and winding roads lies this little old library. A small stage. Rugs on the ground. Lights in the trees. Good wine… and often… an amazing band. Capacity is a mere few hundred, and tickets are known to sell out within 60 seconds.

Past shows have included Beach House, Arcade Fire, Philip Glass, Edward Sharpe, Band of Horses, and Fleet Foxes.

This place (that could very well be heaven’s distant cousin) is a must on the California Coastal roadtrip. Look up the schedule and try to get in. Your hearts, ears, and dancing feet will forever thank you.
