Banana Chai Smoothie Recipe

This time of year, autumnal spices creep into almost everything we eat.  I recently read about how to make your own chai spice and this smoothie is the perfect place to use it. It adds just the right kick to the smooth, light combination of banana and almond milk!

I found a variety of different combinations you can use to make chai spice, so you can definitely experiment with this and adjust it to your liking. Here’s what I used:

Homemade Chai Spice

2 tsp ground cardamom
2 tsp ground cinnamon
2 tsp ground cloves
1 tsp nutmeg
1 tsp ground ginger
1 tsp fresh ground black pepper
1 tsp ground all spice

Mix them all together and store in a mason jar to reuse whenever you want! This would be an amazing addition to your coffee in the morning :).

Banana Chai Smoothie

Makes 1 smoothie

1 banana
1 cup almond milk
1 tbsp chai spice (add more or less, depending on your taste!)
1 cup ice cubes

Add all ingredients to a blender, and blend until smooth.  Top with a little bit of nutmeg or cinnamon!

I just made the chai spice today and put a dash in my hot chocolate and it’s out of this world! I’ll have to try the banana smoothie when i get some almond milk!

The spice flavoring mix is great. I made this once following the directions but a tbsp of the seasoning mix was way too much
I tried again using. 1/4 tsp and it was perfect.

Quite a delicious recipe! If it comes out too “spicey,” I like adding a dash of vanilla extract, a bit of honey, and one more frozen banana for some good flavor and texture :)
