Leaf Wall Décor, 2 Ways

Now that the leaves are just beginning to change color where we are in Philadelphia, it’s the perfect time to bring some into home as a form of décor. What I really love about decorating with leaves is that it’s a short-lived thing. Leaves only change color for a short period of time, and once you pluck them from a tree, it’s only a matter of time before they dry up. This forces us to really appreciate every moment of beauty that these colored pieces of nature give to us. Here are two ways I love to decorate my walls with autumn tree leaves.

I love the idea of using leaves to create a painting-like display on the wall. It’s really easy and really fun. Just gather some leaves from outside and tape them to your wall. I used brown washi tape, but this would work with standard masking tape, as well. Point the leaves in different directions, and use each  leaf as one tiny piece of an overall shape. This would be really cool for a party photo booth, too!

The second way is to thread a bunch of leaves onto some pieces of string and then hang them from a wall. Thread them in different directions so that the leaves point different ways once they’re hung. I also think it looks great to space the leaves unevenly between one another and to use different lengths of string – both of these things give more of a hand-done, “perfectly imperfect” feel. You can also have some fun by decorating a few of the leaves however you like – I used gold acrylic paint.
