Creating Decorative Element Jars

This month’s catalog has been one of my favorites to date. I love the way each chapter is divided into a different element. As I was flipping through the pages, I began to wonder which element resonated with me the most.

In astrology, each of the four natural elements — Earth, Water, Air and Fire — is associated with 3 different zodiac signs.  Most astrologers use the elements extensively when reading astrological charts, and believe that the element your sign falls under greatly influences personality traits.  After doing some research, I found out that my sign, Libra, is an air sign. Below, you can use these little charts to find out what element your sign falls under.

Fire signs: Aries, Leo, Sagittarius

Air Signs: Gemini, Libra, Aquarius

Earth Signs: Taurus, Virgo, Capricorn

Water Signs: Cancer, Scorpio, Pisces

After reading more about the different elements, I was inspired to create little jars that contained things representing each element.  You can create a jar for yourself based on your element, or you could give one to a friend as a personalized gift.  These are simple to make, and most of the items I put in the jars I had around the house or found outside.  It’s really up to you to include whatever you feel represents each element.

You can use jars of any size. Flea markets are a great place to find some cool ones if you don’t have any.

items for jars

These are some of the things I collected to represent each element: Water and blue paint for water, soil and sticks for earth, feathers and crystals for air, and burnt matches, candle wax and some incense dust for fire. element jars

Add the items to a jar, and there you go! These are perfect little decor additions and you can put them anywhere. I have mine on my desk, and it reminds me to check my horoscope every day. :)

Have fun making your jars and get creative with it!  You could even tie some string around a smaller jar to make it into a necklace. If you have any cool suggestions, we’d love to hear!

hey Jana, where do you tend to check your horoscope daily? I love the weekly horoscopes here on the blog because they seem to really exaplain the sense of why, to be more insightful than others. I’d love to know of something similar to use day to day. Thanks! :)

This is really pretty!! I really want to try this this weekend

On a separate note, can you guys do a post on how to blog or blogging tips? I tend to have trouble finding inspiration about what to blog about especially since I don’t have a professional camera.
