Embrace Winter, Get Cozy

January. The days are short, the skies are gray. The joy and excitement that once filled the air comes to a lull, quietly escaping alongside the holiday season. Wanderlust hits. We want to get out. Away, away, to somewhere warm. We dream of a place with sun-filled days and jacket-less nights.

Of course there are those who love this season. They live for the wind, the cold, the snow. But I, myself, have never been one of them. I always seem to find myself resisting this time of year. I don’t want it to be now, I want it to be then. To be spring, summer, fall… anything but winter. But you know what? It will never actually be then. It will always be right now. So this time around, I’m going to embrace it.

There really is nothing quite like the comfort of getting cozy, and there’s no better time to get cozy then now. So do it. Get cozy. Make tea — your own blends. Experiment and experiment until you find one you can call your own. Light candles, everywhere. Make it your mission to be warm. Bundle up… more than ever. Wear two scarves at once, entwined in one another. When you venture out, let your nose be the only thing that touches the crisp, dry air. If the windows fog up, use your fingers to draw designs on them.. and then play tic tac toe. Cook a warm meal for your friends… have a potluck! Share secrets. Watch movies. Read books. Rest. This is the season of comfort and warmth… not that which occurs on its own, but that which we create for ourselves. Before we know it, these winter days will slip away, bringing forth the rebirth of spring. Don’t let them get away before you can savor them. Embrace winter, get cozy.

I love this bc the only reason why I love January is bc that’s when my birthday is. Otherwise I say summer is my favorite season.

This is an awesome way to look at winter “This is the season of comfort and warmth… not that which occurs on its own, but that which we create for ourselves.” I’ll add it to my list of goals :)
